It's almost like playing him with Streit is a good idea. - Feanor
It's strange that in the 5/55 pair, that somehow it's 55 who takes on the role of the puck-rusher, mad-pincher, eh?
32/5 would definitely be a more sensible top-pair. 8 needs to go away. |

I'm not blindly defending anyone and have no problem trading Coburn for a 1st. I'm just laughing at the idea that taking him off the team makes it better. - Feanor
He is just trolling you as he does on this board every day.

Any D man in the league.
Pre lottery balls, so you don't get to know what the pick is. - nails
Yeah I would do that. Chances are you won't win the lottery so take what you know and get a dman. That is not gonna happen though. Interesting to think about either way. |

Define "true #1". Are we talking Doughty, Weber, Pietrangelo? Because I would trade any 1st round pick except 1st overall (i.e. McDavid) for them. - NickTheKid87
I would trade the first overall, only because those guys are proven NHL quantities. McDavid likely will be a superstar, but there's always a chance he could be a Daigle/Stefan/etc, even a Vinny Lecavalier or Joe Thornton type. |

Well, they have clearly played better with him out of lineup. The dude has continually made horrible mistakes game after game this season. I mean at one point he was on the ice for 11 of the last 12 goals against. How is that overlooked?
He isnt the problem, but he is part of it. He is one of the players along with many more I would like to see gone by next season. I would be happy with playing the kids. At least I could accept their growing pains. |

The problem I personally have with that theory, is it's a theory. G and Voracek are proven... G has been a top 5 forward year in and year out, imo.. and Voracek is now earning his spot up there. Two of the best forwards in the league right now, let alone on the Flyers. But then you trade them for two prospective good players... ones who are supposed to be the best, but may not turn out to be so... It's always a risk when young players are being selected as the future of the NHL.. some make it, some don't. For that reason, I wouldn't trade both of them... MAYBE one of them... but not both.. - WarriorHockey21
Your right about a risk with young players but it's about playing the percentages. The majority (75%) if Stanley Cup winners for the last 20 years had at least one Hall of fame level defenseman; Leetch, Niedermayer, Lidstrom, Bourque, Keith, Chara, Doughty. Can you win without them? Yes but the percentage is worst. Looking at those guys: 3 went in the top ten of the draft, 1 each in rounds 2,3 and 4. You can get great defensemen late but a higher percentage come in the top 10. There have been defense prospects who have come in and dominate early in their career but most need time to adjust at the NHL level. There are players who have wonderful years in the 30's but a much higher percentage decline by then.
So if are betting on the Flyers winning a cup as currently constructed or in the next 2-3 season, you are betting against the odds. I would take my chance with a possible stud defenseman that could lead the Flyers to a cup or multiple cups over any other option. |

That's true too but he could also be Crosby. There's a lot of things that would go into a decision like that. Luckily the Flyers will never be face with it or it doesn't appear they will be. |

Yep. He could be. On the high end, you have the Crosby/Ovechkin/Tavares/Kane types (elite superstar types). Then you have the Lecavalier/Thornton/Johnson/Hall/Kovalchuk/Nash types (superstar players, but maybe not players to build around). Then you have the Berard/Jovanovski/Daigle/Stefan/DiPietro types (fine players, possible All-Stars, but well short of career expectations).
Like I said, I'll take the sure thing. |

Theoretically he has allthe skills to be a very good shutdown defensemen. He just makes too many mental mistakes. Last time I was impressed with him was back in 2008 or so. |

If I could get a number one D man pre lottery, I do it.
If i have the #1 overall.....I think very strongly about it.
Hell, I might even deal the #1 if I can go to #3 and get another asset. |

You were impressed with Rinaldo as a defenseman in 2008? I thought you were talking about him, guess it was Coburn (you kinda jumped around). But if it's Coburn, his best play was the 2010 SCF where he was arguably our 2nd best defenseman. |
