I believe it is a picture of keaner when he was younger. It is not surprising that, as a hockey player, he was known more for his pugilistic skills than his hockey skills. |

The only thing ever said against this is the Point totals for the top would be new records...etc. The easiest solution to that rather dumb argument is 1/2 point. Reg win or OT win is 2 points... Shootout win is 1.5. - niteislander
The key is that every game should result in the same number of points being handed out. No more of the current system where 2 points is awarded for some games and 3 points is awarded for others.
My suggestion would be to give out 5 points for every game......
Regulation win.....5
OT win................4
Shoot out win......3
Shout out loss......2
OT loss................1
Regulation loss.....0 |

They win their games in hand and they're 4pts back - Isles_since_6
So if the rags win all their games they will beat us? Thanks for that gem. I wouldn't worry too much. The rags will cool off.
Keep in mind, with all the three point games it is very hard to make up ground. The Isles can only worry about themselves. They would need an epic collapse to miss the playoffs. They'll get into the playoffs and then we can start sweating.
This is a fantastic season. You really should try to enjoy it. |

I don’t know about you guys, but I see the difference between making the playoffs and missing them, and it’s not that much. I still see Johnson having to play another 15 games this season and that’s a major concern.
I’ll feel more comfortable when we’re in the last month of the season if they’re still ahead by this much.
I’ve enjoyed almost all of their games, I’m thrilled with how well it’s gone, but I’m not able to shake the last twenty years of this franchise off after 33 games.

Judging by your handle, I'll say it nicely...Thanks, you're not telling us anything we don't already know. Goalie & D are significantly improved from last year(tho Chad Johnson has had bad starts last 4 games) and we have what is really a rookie line that's outscoring the top line and other players chipping in when needed, which makes us dangerous as we are still considered up & coming.
No one would have predicted the Rangers last year making it to Finals game 6, so you never know but it's interesting to see your concern in stopping by with a condescending remark & a reminder of where we are...which is right in the rearview mirror of the best teams in the league.
Honk, honk. - jmo16
Rangers could defend and had an elite goalie. U guys are the exact opposite. So really no comparison there at all... |

I just re-read what I wrote. Apologies, I didn't mean for it to come off that harsh.
Johnson is still a huge concern, no debate there. They will need to play him and see if he can get his game back. Now that the D is back maybe he can fight his way through it.
Here are the points for the final seed in the east since 05-06:
05-06 - 92
06-07 - 92
07-08 - 94
08-09 - 93
09-10 - 88
10-11 - 93
11-12 - 92
12-13 - 94 (prorated)
13-14 - 93
Right now the pace is higher but I'm sure some teams will cool off and it will settle back into that range. The Isles should have no problem getting in unless there are some major injuries. I am more worried about a horrible first round loss. |

Johnson is a major concern. Some people have that "we are winning who cares" attitude and can appreciate that but I dont want to be just a playoff team. We have the horses to do some damage and if the idea is just to make the playoffs then myself and a large contingent of the fan base will be dissappointed. Going further with johnson and with the idea that strait is a viable option as a number seven to me is half assed. |

Lol, I’ve deserved worse many times.
I wish I could shake off the nagging feeling that the bottom is going to fall out and objectively, I don’t see how we play this week for 33 games and miss the playoffs, but this franchise has done a wonderful job of stomping on my optimism over the years. I don’t expect them to fail over the second half of the season, I’m just not comfortable expecting success is all

Not disagreeing with either one of you, but, definitely can't rule out anything until it happens. Look at Toronto last year. They were rolling through the 1st portion of the season and the wheels fell off and they missed the playoffs.
I personally think, the way this team is built, only major injuries will derail them. (Halak being the biggest piece.) |

i keep thinking about the wild, when they were 1st overall and then fell faster than rick dipietro after a punch to the face. |

That's pretty fast! The Isles will do better than that this year! (It's would be hard to do much worse.)
- JimmyP
the only real thing that's bothering me with them this year is Johnson's play. Halak hasn't shown a history of being able to start 65 games or so, and Johnson has been brutal. If Halak goes down we're in a really bad place.
That said, as negative as I sound, this year has been absolutely amazing to watch. I have really enjoyed it overall. |

Exactly. As someone else said or suggested, unless Halak is out for an extended period, we should be fine getting into the playoffs. However, I'm not sure about our chances for playoff success. We aren't blowing many teams out, not even the weaker teams. And more than 1/4 of our wins are from the shoot-out which doesn't help us in the playoffs. |
