he did? he complained no differently than mdz when he was quoted by our crack beat reporters. - hammarby31
Yeah, but Vinny's situation is definitely different than Michael Del Zotto's.
Vinny might be someone we're all bemoaning now, but he's actually done things in this league.
Michael Del Zotto is kinda lucky to have a job right now and he should act accordingly. |

I don't think you are wrong, but the main thing the Flyers blueline lacks is mobility, and puck moving. In theory, those are MDZ strengths. Everyone on the Flyers defense core has struggled mightily at times this year, all things being equal why is Berube constantly scratching the dman, who has the skill set the Flyers desperately need? On the surface, it doesn't make much sense. |

i understand your point. mine is that their comments were basically identical, both as a result of being scratched. and from mdz's pov, he was logging 20+ minutes a night to being benched rather quickly.
he just needs to practice hard, be a good team guy and he'll get his chance. berube is a strange duck. and i have to say, i'm not really a fan at this point. |

Do you honestly think that because he's lucky to have a job that he shouldn't be unhappy with not playing? He wouldn't be worth a dam as a player if he wasn't unhappy about it. |

I'd rather see them add a player who is more of a playmaker, and puck carrier for the 2nd line. Having some grit along with it would be great. - MJL
Yes. There are two wings. The playmaking wing can replace Read. |

It's insane. If Giroux was shooting at his normal levels, he'd be ahead of Voracek in scoring. |

It's all subjective. I don't agree with not playing Del Zotto for this long, but I understand it.
Streit and Grossmann had struggled for a few games before the weekend, but he's not going to scratch them. He's also not going to scratch Coburn. He seems to really like Schultz. MacDonald and Schenn are playing well right now.
If Del Zotto can get back to where he was for that 2-3 week period, it's a boon to the Flyers, but he has to play to be able to do that. I would think he has to show it and earn it in practice. And none of us know what's going on there. |

Follow the shooting rates, the lower rates are the guys that are most likely to be able to maintain their ranking.
LOWEST shooting ranks in the top 15 for the total points race:
Giroux 7.8%
Giordano 10.8%
Crosby 11.4%
Tyler Johnson 11.4%
Voracek 13.7%
HIGHEST:
Hudler 20%
Seguin 19.1%
Nash 18%
Stamkos 17%
Tarasenko 16.9%
That being said, I think Stamkos will be able to maintain that shooting % or even improve it. Hudler has tended to maintain a high shooting %. Tarasenko's shouldn't need to drop very much to be a sustainable number for him. Guys like Nash and Seguin are putting up a % way higher than their career normals. |

Nor am I. The defense is still making individual mistakes and not playing especially good. They still struggle at times moving the puck up ice and it's not just the Luke Schenns that are having issues. But Berube and his Scratch Immunity List say that some guy don't sit.
I agreed with his handling of Vinny, including how he handled the return-put him on a 4th line and force him to earn bigger minutes with the sweat of his brow. But MDZ wasn't being lazy or not working hard. He's benched because he's not a big lumbering, allegedly good defensively, defenseman.
Meanwhile we see poor play in supposed areas of strength by everyone else dressing, and Del Zotto doesn't get a sniff.
I understand it, and it's because Berube's playing to his biases. |
