I liked some of his stuff. Not a huge fan, always loved this clip where Belushi came out and (frank)ed with him, though |

yeah, that's one he'd want back. he was down, pads closed, stick there, and still the puck somehow squeezed through. i kinda' felt badly for him there. |

I would not be looking to replace Read. - MJL
Read can stay but he can be on the 3rd line. |

Nor am I. The defense is still making individual mistakes and not playing especially good. They still struggle at times moving the puck up ice and it's not just the Luke Schenns that are having issues. But Berube and his Scratch Immunity List say that some guy don't sit.
I agreed with his handling of Vinny, including how he handled the return-put him on a 4th line and force him to earn bigger minutes with the sweat of his brow. But MDZ wasn't being lazy or not working hard. He's benched because he's not a big lumbering, allegedly good defensively, defenseman.
Meanwhile we see poor play in supposed areas of strength by everyone else dressing, and Del Zotto doesn't get a sniff.
I understand it, and it's because Berube's playing to his biases. - Jsaquella
Every single coach has biases. This same coach who is biased against Del Zotto, played Del Zotto high minutes in a number of games, including as much as 24 minutes in some games. Where was the bias against Del Zotto then?
Del Zotto was not scratched because he wasn't working hard or being lazy, nor because he's not a big lumbering defenseman. He was benched because he was no longer playing within the structure of the team system. He was going on far too many lone ranger rushes, and wasn't be responsible defensively first. Berube wants him playing as a defenseman, not as a roving forward. He needs to play well defensively, move the puck smartly, and join the rush, coming late. Not leading the rush, or gambling on the offensive side of the puck.
I want Del Zotto back in the lineup also, but if he's not showing it in practice, which I don't know if he is or isn't. Then that could explain why he hasn't been playing. |

Sorry. I can't really get on here on the weekends.
I will have to go out on a limb and say whatever you posted over the weekend was inherently wrong and flies in the face of facts.
Fact's face has never been more flied into.

Here is Del Zotto's game log. What coach who has a bias against a player, plays that player 23+ minutes per game, in a stretch of 7 out of 8 games? And in the one game in that stretch that he didn't play 23+ minutes, he played 21:25. There is no bias against Del Zotto. It's simply about his play.

When you live in an insular world of polyester and Lincoln Town cars that's all you can expect to understand. We can blame it on your environment. Go pick out a nice set of seat covers and we'll get you in that new jacket and tie. |

It's good to know that, despite numerous coverage mistakes and continued troubles moving the puck out of their own end, that playing a guy 20+ minutes prior to making him a healthy scratch in 8 of the last 11 games isn't a matter of bias, when the only other defenseman to go through a period of being scratched that was similar was the guy signed as an emergency replacement.
Basically poor play is far more acceptable if you're either making a big salary, perceived as a "good defensive" defenseman, or "work hard"
Nope, not a bias. Just some unquantifiable "practice" comment. |
