Who knows? I'm just glad it worked. This is why I wanted him to play on the 4th line when he returned. Nothing handed to him but an opportunity. He got the message and he's earning his playing time and likely a bigger role.

I doubted Vinny. But he's worked his ass off since coming back, and doing so at both ends of the ice. He's not going to be a highly effective defensive player, but he's working hard and getting rewarded, as he should be.

He can still score, if you spot him properly AND he wants to play AND understands that he has to make the most of the minutes he gets

It's not rocket science.

Roll him out there against other players who see less than 10 minutes a game and he can do damage. He can still play, but if you put him out there against top 9 caliber guys, he gets shut down and looks cooked, because he's slow.

However, I am not a scientist, so I could be off base.

If an acquiring team had a few different forwards, they could squint and tell themselves that you could play him 16-18 minutes a night. They'd get nothing back, of course -- be lucky to not take something bad back
