I thought Saturday Night showed everyone in the Hockey World how good the Flyers really are. None of the goals scored were gimme goals.

If they get time and space they are a great offensive team.

But tight checking, disciplined teams like Tampa and the Rangers choke the life out of them before they can even get the puck in the offensive zone

In order to beat tight checking teams, you need speed, skill and guys who know how to possess the puck. Sadly, we are lacking in all of those departments.

They suck at keeping their 2nd rounders. I thought it was bad, but it's actually ridiculous - seven 2nd round picks in the last 16 drafts.

1999 no 2nd round pick
2000 no 2nd round pick
2001 no 2nd round pick
2002 no 2nd round pick
2003 no 2nd round pick
2004 no 2nd round pick
2005 no 2nd round pick
2006 Nodl, Ratchuk, Bodrov
2007 Marshall
2008 no 2nd round pick
2009 no 2nd round pick
2010 no 2nd round pick
2011 no 2nd round pick
2012 Stolarz
2013 Hagg
2014 NAK

So the only contributions the Flyers have got at the NHL level from second round picks the past 15 years is Nodl and Marshall? JFC... That is pitiful.

I certainly don't think the Leafs played very welll or clogged up the neutral zone well, but there is no such thing as a team letting another team skate on them. A large part of the reason why the score was 7-4, was because of the way the Flyers skated. If the Flyers don't show up to play, and skate, they don't win the game. It's that simple, and it had everything to do with the intensity they played with. Intensity and the mental side of the game has been one of the biggest issues with this team.
- MJL

The flyers showed up just as they normally have been this year. It's rare this year to question their intensity or mental side. Credit berube for that. Did the flyers really "show up" anymore in that game or the canes game then the Tampa or Florida game? The answer is no. It's the way the opponent played them

The Leafs were hot prior to Saturday. The Rangers have struggled against them. The Flyers have their issues but going in, the odds were against us.

Considering they didn't even pick anybody in the 2nd round in 11 of those years, that's not too awful. I would grade it incomplete all things considered. I wonder who they would have gotten had they selected in the 2nd round...

Wondering if and when Matt Read pulls his head out and starts playing the kind of hockey he has played the last few seasons. He has looked completely lost on the ice and was horrible in the Winnipeg game and for most of the season. I am suprised that he has not been giving the spectator seat this season because he definetly is no longer earning the responsibility of playing on the shutdown line with Coots.

That's the thing. We'll never know. You would think a few out of 11 would have stuck,

He was terrible in Winnipeg. Prior to that it looked like he was playing much better. Not sure if it's an injury or what, but Read has struggled mightily most of the season.

At least more so than Nodl and Marshall. Their recent second rounders seem good thus far. Let's hope they pan out and the next 15 years are more fruitful.

They are too passive in the defensive zone a lot of times, which leads to chip outs, icings, dump ins with line changes behind it which lead to easy outs, and more zone time defending for the Flyers. When they skate well, they have a better presence in the neutral zone, and a better forecheck.

They did recently admit that he was playing through an injury earlier in the season, I have to wonder if may of tweaked something. He's been a pretty consistent player during his career and I doubt that at age 28 he is all of sudden over the hill, so I have to think he is nursing some kind of injury.

Sadly, since they have next to no depth at forward, even a hurting Matt Read is better than what they could replace him with.

Disagree completely. Not sure how it is rare to question their intensity or the mental aspect of the game. That's two of the bigest issues that have plagued this team all season. They've been playing with hesitiation in their game due to a lack of confidence, which leads to thinking the game instead of just reacting and playing the game with confidence. That leads to slow, cautious play, and a lack of intensity. How the Flyers intensity waivers from game to game is easy to spot.
According to your premise the Flyers have no control on how they play, it's all about how the opponent plays them. That is obviously false.

Agreed. They need Read to be a consistent player. The lack of secondary scoring is almost as big an issue as the defense.
