Lots of quotes in here from Hextall on player development.
http://nbcphiladelphia.cs...rospect-sam-morin-develop - Feanor
“Those 15 games or whatever he played down there, they’re helpful,” Hextall said. “If anybody says they’re not, I’ll argue with them all day long. First of all, [he] sees the bus, not the shrimp cocktail. That’s valuable. Very valuable."

Pretty much. I mean if 175 pound Zac Rinaldo was in the lineup, big Buff would have called in sick. |

Did anyone else read Hextall's quotes as "we might have pigeon holed Sean Couturier a little bit"? - johndewar
They probably did a little bit.... IDK. I think when they played him he was definitely ready to play against top competition and has gained very valuable experience and is progressing offensively. Should get 20 goals this year. What if they just waited to play him until now or last season? I'm not sure he would be a better player that way. I think its different for every player. |

I'm not saying it was wrong what they did with Coots.
But this part definitely made me think about Sean Couturier's development way back when. Just because someone can make the team maybe doesn't always mean that he's ready:
“But I don’t want to put a guy on the team at 19 or 20 so we can say we’re young or stunt his development. It’s always, ‘Is a player gonna make our team better?’ And then the second part of it is, ‘Does he need more time to make his game better?’

So the only contributions the Flyers have got at the NHL level from second round picks the past 15 years is Nodl and Marshall? JFC... That is pitiful. - PLindbergh31
it's beyond that. |

Maybe you're right. I will say this though:
If I had to choose between another offensive center, or a defensive shut down center with the fact that Claude Giroux is their as the #1 center...
I would pick the latter every single time. |

I thought Couturier was handled well his rookie year. He was ready physically for the NHL and played strong defense to warrant a roster spot. His offensive game was still developing so I was fine with his use. The fact that he has been used in the same way the following three seasons is disheartening. I feel like not getting offensive minutes and situations may stunt his growth. It seems like the Flyers' brass including Hextall, Lavy, Berube, Homer, etc. always saw him as a player that could produce offense so it's odd that he never really got a shot to let those skills develop. |

That last game under a minute left and its 2-2. I still have visions of Amac inexplicably falling down behind the net, turning the puck over, leads to a typical Flyer Clusterfck scramble in their zone. LSchenn gets caught in no mans land between two Wild attackers and game over. Ugh. Flyers outplayed Minny the first two periods but Keumper kept them in the game, he was very good that game. Suter played nearly 30 minutes of flawless shut down D. I think Brodin was missing that night.
Jake and G will get a big dose of Suter again tonight.
Someone else may need to step up for them. - Marc D

Yeah, I agree.
I like Coots and what he's brought to the table. |
