Why not the kings route ? - cabin
Just because, either one is fine. Our GM is a good talent evaluator. So I suspect he would rather do it with talent he drafts and develops. |

This is year 8. - dadeadhead
No it isn't . Not in the true rebuild . How many of those 8 years were we just treading water . Taking others cast offs in our heroic runs to ninth. How many years has Pegula owned the team . Last owner could have cared less if they won as long as he did not lose money.

I was looking at the past winners, Looks pretty much a combination of drafting, development, trades, and luck. I guess it will be whatever works that winning year. |

It takes just about every team a couple of years or more of futility to realize they have to blow it up and start all over. You absolutely need to factor that in. If those first years were better, there would be no need for a true rebuild. |

I was fine with this as long as it meant that our team was here. He did the city a huge favor by making sure the team didn't get moved, so I won't complain about him the way others do. |

Not playing up to your potential(sucking) and rebuilding are 2 different things. |

Some of them winning teams were not a result of a rebuild . Just have to have the correct pieces.
In the right places. |

The Championship teams did. LA, Boston, and Chicago, the winners of the last five cups all had multiple disaster seasons after the 2005 lockout.
You can "retool" and be good, possibly even very good. In today's current climate, it's essentially a necessity to blow it up and rebuild at some point in order to be truly great. |

I liked Green Days older stuff. But what the hell? First ballot? I don't get it. Some suspect the hall just wants to have a tv show/ceremony with a relevant band. |

Not complaining about him . It was just an investment for him . He tripled his money in a few years. Can't feel sorry for him. |

LA 02/03-08/09 No playoffs
Boston 05/06-06/07 No playoffs but helped out by UFA signings(Chara and Savard) and Toronto being off their rocker
Chicago previously gone over. |

Place is totally irrelevant. Green Day had the best selling record a couple years, so they get in. Britney Spears will be in there when the nostalgia/timing/merchandise potential is right. |

I forgot to add that I think Boston is more the exception than the rule as well, but, even they "blew it up" with the Joe Thornton trade in December of 2006. |

It wasn't even an investment. He never had any intention on making any money off of it, just didn't want to lose money. He knew that to keep the team here until they could find a suitable replacement owner that wouldn't move the team he would need to be cautious and that's what he was. Let's not take the good thing he did and make it sound bad, because it wasn't. His intentions were always clear. People are just jaded because of the series of events that happened a few years after the lockout.
I'll admit, I was upset too, but sports teams are also a business and can be very expensive to run. Who am I to actually tell them how to spend their money? |

As bad as Boston was those two years, they only had a top 3 pick because of Toronto. So yeah agreed, exception. |

Golisano got the Sabres at essentially a bargain basement price, with the team being league run and out of bankruptcy. Couple that with the stars aligning and a buyer whose dream had been to own the team, he lucked into it a little bit. Pegula paid a premium for this team. |

They were, he wanted to become Governor.
Keeping the team here was a way he thought could do that.
Lets not make him out to be something great. |

Eh, I'm not sure about that. Pop music tends to be fleeting. People worship it to death when it first comes out then no one wants to admit they were ever into it ever again. Rock-N-Roll that is popular at some point usually becomes classic and not buried. |

There's also the Pittsburgh Penguins, who seem to be an afterthought in large part because of Fleury's struggles in the playoffs. However, I still think you would be crazy not to pencil them in for another championship or two within the next decade. |
