OFFICIAL: The 4th #NYR goal in last night's game is now credited to Rick Nash giving him his 1st hat trick as a NYR! pic.twitter.com/9AogCv2SRd - jimbro83
It's kind of funny, has Nash gotten the broadway hat yet this year? I can't remember him ever having it. He has been the teams best player every game haha. |

Yeah, not sure why the goal hasn't been changed to Nash....should've been a hatty. I thought the league was all over stuff like getting the scoresheet right. It wasn't even close to St. Louis' goal if they simply look at the replay.
Whoops...lol spoke too soon...
And the Staal situation...I have a feeling MSL will not be brought back. We have an abundance of wings that need roster spots. With Duclair, Haggerty, Buchnevic, etc... Simply put, the loss of Staal will be more painful to this team's makeup than the loss of MSL. - xcheckmajor
I agree on Staal, but not MSL ... losing MSL I think would account for an immediate regression on the wings while we hope/wait for the youngsters to develop. He may be an aging player, and may not be posting elite points totals, but he is still our second best winger and a leader on this team. |

I think opening night. |

Nash could have had a 4 goal night. is it safe to say he is currently the best player in the league? when he's playing like this, he's very difficult to stop. |

Yea I love seeing Zucc bounce back into form. Although this is probably gonna create another contract situation at the trade deadline along with Staal haha - TPC
No way Zuke's gonna walk. Guessing he gets 4-5 years 3.75 per ...!
He loves NY and is probably willing to take that rather than 4.5 elsewhere ... |

Disclaimer: I like Staal on this team.
With the impending free agency status of Stepan, MSL, Zuccarello, Hagelin and Staal, respectively, it just makes little financial sense to meet Staal's contractual requests.
It Staal can temper these desired financial figures I think the Rangers would oblige. But out of all the impending free agents to be, this summer, their priority has to be Stepan before everyone else. He might not be a bonafide top tier center but he is likely amongst the next level of quality first line centers.
I don't think it will take a lot to bring St. Louis back on a one year or two year extension. Hagelin won't cost a lot as well and, unless he is dealt beforehand, I think he easily re-signs.
The two players, that might endure a cantankerous contract process, will be Zuccarello and Staal. |

Hagelin is gonna drive his price up with all of these empty net goals |

Maybe because the Rangers absolutely own the Flyers we all take for granted the type of season Voracek is having.
The team is pretty thin, and relies way too much on that top line, but he continues to get it done almost every night, win or lose.
Nash has been brilliant this season so far. He definitely has been one of the best players in the NHL this season. Can't think of many other players that have been as consistent game by game. |

Hagelin is a third liner, a good third liner, but a solid third liner nonetheless. Zuccarello, when right, can be on most teams top six wing rotation. The free agent status of each also will play a large role; Zucc a UFA and Hagelin RFA. Another interesting summer awaits but this time these impending free agents are more core players than last summer.
Anyone else loving the recent play of the Tampa Ranger players? Callahan quickly going back to average, Stralman as well and Boyle being Boyle. |

glad to see someone else agreeing with my opinion on Stepan ...
1pt shy of a PPG, 4th on the team overall (with only 20 GP), most special teams points, plays in all situations, while certainly not on the level of the Crosby's of the NHL, I think he's proven himself worthy of being called a #1 center. |

Yep while the Rangers players are starting to take off. I can only imagine what the Rangers record could be if they could not wait 25 games to get going every season haha |

I can't really be labeled a huge Stepan fan but he has proven himself to be relaible in all phases of the game.
He is strong defensively, good on the power play and he can keep up even strength with the better Rangers wingers. Been very impressed with Stepan this season and overall he has been a steady performer here. |

make no mistake about it, Setpan is the number 1 center. he's not elite caliber, but there are plenty of teams in the league that would gladly trade their number 1 center for Stepan straight up. He's logging top minutes on the top line and is producing. With the free agents coming up, I think Hagelin and Zuccarello are the the odd men out. I know Zucc has picked it up, but with Stepan, Kreider, and Staal all expecting to get paid, i think they end up on the outs. |

I can't lie I have taken great glee in seeing Tampa level out some while the mighty Stralman looks quite pedestrian in the process.
Was never worried about Callahan slowing down his production because I am completely convince that the only reasons, he looked like a Hall of Fame player against the Rangers, is because his old buddies were too soft on him. The rest of the league obviously won't treat him like a long lost visiting friend like Girardi and Staal did. |

how can Kreider expect to get paid. He's one of my favorite Rangers but the guy has been a huge disappointment.

well Kreider is signed for 2.4 mil this year and next, his contract status is of no concern right now |

Guess the official scorer just finished his shopping.
Rangers lost an opportunity here. Think of all those fans that would have needed new hats if they scored this properly last night... - callahank
Not that it happens often, but a Flyers home hat trick is always accompanied by 25% off hats for the rest of the night. |

fair point and his contract is not up right now like jimbro said, so maybe Kreider is one of the odd men out. maybe they consider trading him because even though we expected more from him, his size and speed give him a decent value. |

If there's one thing sather is great it, its trading a player right before they lose all their value and he always gets a great return. See: gaborik, MDZ, gomez |

"They're 12-0-1 this season, so it has not cost them yet, but continual playing with fire may eventually come back to burn them"
I agree that we don't want to continually let teams back into a game, but I think we have to look at most games in 2 parts, when each team has their push, where the more effective push wins the game. There are not many pushovers or totally dominant teams in this league, so the parity should account for closer games, regardless of how/when the scoring occurs. If the Caps push was in the first, we'd be saying we weathered the storm and wrested control of the game.
I always think back to the 6-5 SO loss to MTL at the Bell Center a few years back. Rangers scored 5 in the first half of the game, MTL scored 5 in the second half. Rather than a back and forth game, it was I control the game now, you control it later, but its the same result, we just view it differently. - JackBurton37
Great post. Reaction of the fans directly correlates to the outcome of the game. We win like last game it's weathering the push of the opponent, we lose nd we can't hold leads. Reverse it to being down early, we lose it's because we're not up for the game/prepared. We win it's because we have perseverance and come-back ability..overreaction from one game being a common theme |

This is what I see pending the Cap going up to $73M as many speculate. I don't see MSL in our future, especially if Nash continues the type of production he's giving us now.
This leaves us with over $2M to sign more players and losing no one on the team except MSL.

Most fans forget the other team has nhl caliber players who are also trying to win . I try not to get to high or to low when watching games . But I've also watched them since 62 so I'm prepared for just about anything . Happy holidays to all Ranger fans out there . |

i feel like we analyze things to death. one thing won't change: if you outplay the other team for a majority of the game, you win. it's as simple as that. sometimes a white hot goalie can steal you a game in which you're completely outclassed, but come on. the Rangers took it to the Caps for the first 40 minutes of the game and weathered the storm in the third thanks to some serious goaltending from lundqvist. |
