Merry Christmas to all!
Hope you enjoy the spirit of the holidays with family and good friends.
Enjoy the WJC games and embrace the visions of Jack Eichel in a Sabres Jersey!
It has been fun getting to know you all on HB, even those I have had heated discussions with...I do enjoy the passion you bring to this board. Behind all the banter, we all want the same ting...Go Sabres, Go Bills! - IonSabres
Same too you Ion. I always look forward to the convos on here over the years . Been some trying times and some recklessness. Some type things without thinking and causes a stir. But we all come back and join the conversation on another day.
(it's like the RX script ran out and then refilled) I enjoy all these days on the boards with everyone and wish all of you.. a very Merry Christmas. |

I'm reading through Facebook, and someone referred to the older animated version of "Night Before Christmas" as "an absolute word salad acid trip of a cartoon". Made me laugh pretty hard. |

So just catching up
With all do respect, you are completely wrong.
Galisano is a true WNYer..and a great businessman who deplores the way NYS is run...and who doesn't. He has googles of money and his past time now is spent to agitate the Govenor's office...he tried to but his way into office or just blew $100M to advertise his thoughts as a way to rankle the Govs office.
He saved the Sabres from moving out of WNY, period. Yes, he made money and profited nicely from his move..mostly because he found a morivated buyer with $B's available and keen interest in that team...but his motivation was the same as Pegula's with the Bills...ain't leaving on "his watch".
Interesting how people find the negatives in a classy move by people who really don't need to do anything.
My hat is off to Galisano and Pegula!!!
Merry Christmas to all - IonSabres
And with all do respect your history is fuzzy.
He wanted to run for Governor again and hoped for a purchase of the team to push him to the next level. It was a ploy mainly to get votes to get the governors seat 1st and foremost. 2nd it was a great investment which in the business is buy low sell high(which he did).
I find it interesting that people forget that was his true purpose in the purchase. It was just as a caretaker until he could find the right guy with the right money that wanted to keep the team here. It made him look like a savior(which I have said I appreciate him keeping the team here) but it couldn't be further from the truth. It was a business deal. Nothing more, nothing less.
He had zero care about what the franchise did as long as it was in the black.
Exhibit A.

DD-
With all due respect, you're not giving Gallysano his due.
If it was a pure business deal for him, Gallysano could have sold the sabres to Ballsilue and his Blackberry money and cashed out at similar profits much earlier than he did. Gallysano Sacrificed profit to keep the franchise in WNY.
I know this as a fact. PROOF: Google Beyma, Sabres Kaplan. Then Google Perlos menu and find the lamb shank |

I read that part.
I also read the three other parts that said (I) his only motivation was to buy low sell high, and(II) that he didn't care what happened to the franchise as long as it made money and (III) people shouldn't think he saved hockey in WNY because he's no savior he's just a profiteer.
I also read the part that suggested his purchasing the team was somehow first and foremost part of his gubernatorial campaigns. Of course, putting aside the fact that the NY governors race is always won or lost south of Poughkeepsie and almost nobody there cares about the Sabres, Gallysano bought the Sabres in 2003, and his last campaign was 2002.
To me, those four items made the point of your post, otherwise you have to admit he did save hockey herE. |

Bettman had something to do with it as he could have allowed the team to be sold off to the highest bidder. Something he gets zero credit for. Golisano met with Bettman in October of 2002 (a month prior to the election). Yes Golisano denied the interest in purchasing the team had anything to do with the upcoming election. What else was he going to say?

I have said now 3 times I'm thankful he bought the team and kept them here. He was a much better choice than Hamister (he would've run the team into the ground). I'm glad he had zero interest in selling to someone that wanted to move the team out of town. I just will always view him as a place holder owner. He bought low and sold high(which is what you want in a sound investment). |

Maybe this revolutionizes the way we view new movies? I'd be more apt to rent a movie for $6 bucks then I ever will be to drop $60-$100 at a movie theater.
Smart play by Sony IMO. |

DD, your opinion of him being motivated by capturing votes for his run to Govenor is the central part of your argument, which is what I take issue with. That wasn't his motivation. You have your opinion, I have mine based on the countless interviews in which he stated his motivation was altruistic. I choose to believe him.
The rest of what you said iS true in my mind, he was placeholder owner and he admitted it. If it was solely a ploy to gain votes, why didn't he sell when he lost the campaign? He didn't...not to anyone he thought would take the team away...those two facts underline his true motivation more that your opinion of his motivation.
But it is Christmas, have it your way in your mind.

Another good read.
The NHL and the State of NY had as much if not more to do with saving the Sabres than Golisano. Again, I'm thankful he did what he did but I'm sure glad he and his pet snake are gone. |
