Looking forward to watching them play the Preds -- be a good test for them, give us a real idea what we're looking at
Laviolette's system and players can be difficult on the Flyers, but that being said, the Flyers, when Couturier and Read are playing well, can really counterattack. We'll see how involved Nashville's D is, but maybe the Flyers can get one or two if they defend well enough
As always, it's about how the Flyers defend, really |

Good coach with a sub par roster. Though I do wonder how much of a hand he had in fudging up Larsson. |

Seemed to me like Homer wanted to shift directions and go full Bruins/Rangers, started adding the personnel to fit that vision, and pretty much mandated to Lavi that he become Claude Julien or else.
Should have just fired Lavi the minute they stopped believing in his system, instead of expecting a tiger to change his stripes. - Tomahawk
Probably true. If Homer truly wanted to take the team in a different direction, I would think a straight up firing after the lockout season (like many of us wanted) would have sent that message. I truly think that Homer thought that, with a guy like Lecavalier in the fold and some youth growing up a bit, that he and Laviolette could salvage the roster, as constituted, when they went into last season. You saw how well that worked out.
I think what happened in the end wasn't as sinister as Paul Holmgren just passive aggressively (frank)ing Peter Laviolette over. I think Holmgren just swung and missed on some moves and had no plan B, because there was no organizational depth (also, kind of Homer's fault). |

This feels like Uncle Lou running out of answers.
Don't worry, Lou, the KHL will fold soon and you'll have your first round pick AND Ilya Kovalchuk back with the team.

Is the recent stretch of good games by vlc sustainable?
The fourth line has looked really decent of late. |

I know DeBoer was a junior hockey coaching whiz, but this is twice he's been fired at the NHL level. Coaches are hired to be fired....everyone knows this.
But I don't really know what this guy has done to enjoy "he's a good coach" kudos at the NHL level.
If someone wants to play agent for DeBoer here and sell me on him, feel free. |

He took an average at best roster with no superstars and a past his prime Brodeur to the Stanley Cup Final and would have made the playoffs last year if they got a couple shootout wins. |

It's amazing what a three game win streak can do, we actually look acceptable compared to last year. Can we go on a super run though? Without Mason or a good D corps?
Does anyone have a link to the WJC game playing right now? |

He took a Panthers team who had lost their top scorer, OLLI JOKINEN, and whose starting goalie was Thomas Vokoun, and tied Montreal with enough points to make the playoffs, losing out on the playoffs cause of ROW even though they had 93 points. He took that team, a team whose top scorer was Weiss with 61 points, and made them a 93 point team. He took the Devils to the cup final. I don't think he's ever really had a super capable roster at the NHL level, albeit he did have Kovy, Parise, and Elias scoring a point per game. If he was the coach here I don't doubt that he could buy the youth some time, and have this team playing better than it's roster for a couple years. |
