An offer sheet has to be accepted by the player. Teams can call his agent and try to get him to sign, but if he says no, it's a moot point.

Once they paid one of them big money instead of a bridge deal, you knew the others were going to lineup asking for similar money, and those guys are closer to elite status.

I could see him playing one more after this but im not sure that'll be enough. Maybe NJ moves him to a team with a very good offense and he lights it up there.

I guess one would assume if you have an organization that is desirable to play for who has a good relationship with its players you don't need rediculously long contracts.

Ray was talking about this on the radio about 2 weeks ago. He said that it's Girgs once Gionta retires. I know that Ray isn't always the smartest when it comes to things, but he spends a good amount of time in that locker room with the team.
