Thanks Bill. I guess I will have to give up on our PK. It is completely nonfunctional, and they just sit back, and wait for the impending goal to happen. I am beginning to question coach's choice for who is on the PK. He keeps Coby on the first team, and he has had some unusual suspects that he plugs into the forward group; ie. Rinaldo. I understand you may have to tinker with the parts that are not working, however some of those parts have no business on the PK.
Last night, the forwards seemed to fall back into their old bad habits of waiting for the puck, watching the D struggle, failing to dump the puck into the O zone, and not going to the net. That is why I hate those long breaks, because the team seems to get complacent, or forgets how to play, or gets just plain lazy again. Take your pick.
I understand that this is not the team that Hexy may want to put on the ice, but the guys have to at least put forth some effort. Shoot, the Sabers have a lower caliber team, but they are finding ways to win. The Flames have tough guys on their team, and look at how they play. Well, I can see V-check getting frustrated with the team again. He, among a few others, actually shows up to play every night. If he doesn't go to the all-star game, that would be a shame. Now, if he can just wrap presents, that might get him a vote or two...hahaha. |

The Flyers PK is horrible and it has 95% more to do with Read, Couturier, Coburn and Grossman (usually the foursome out there) then it does with Rinaldo.
As for last night..Giroux has to do a better job but is saying "how about the team kills a penalty" like beating a dead horse at this point.

"Stay at home defenseman" in some places really means the puck stays at home in the D zone, until it goes into the goal.
Looking forward to getting one or two nice presents next June. |

With their lack of size and muscle, they would get killed in the 80s

85 Rangers were known as the smurfs. I don't think we're a smallish team, We have several forwards, (and 1/2 our D), with some size.
Last night was frustrating because the Pred's are now a team that can score, with the same defensive commitment.
Pretty lucky that they have 2 offensive players over the 30 point mark, while making a combined, "less than", $2 million.
Poile has done a great job. |

Nothing rots in Edmonton. Stuff freezes and remains frozen. That team is a disgrace to the league. They've been crap for over a decade and not just bad but tanky/bottom of the league bad consistently. There should be a limit to how many consecutive 1st overalls or top 3 picks a team can have in a row.

And special teams - missingmike
Bottom line is the evolution of the league is faster and skilled players in all positions. Stay home defenseman are becoming extinct just like the Jody Shelley's of the league. 5-6 dmen that can skate and have a 2way ability are the way the league is trending. The Flyers always seem to be a season or 2 behind the emerging trends. Would be nice if they set the precedent instead of trying to emulate rival teams after getting smoked in a playoff. |

Tough game against a good team when coming off the Christmas break. That loss wasn't exactly surprising all things considered, although the game was a little boring. It will be interesting to see how they bounce back tomorrow night against a struggling Coyotes team.
I'm not sure anybody fancies the Flyers a contender at this point in time. - wolfhounds

7th best PK last season
5th best the year before...
do they have the same PK coach or somebody else? |
