Yeah, the climb up the standings from where we are is daunting. If they were playing well I could see it but game to game you never know what you're getting.

The team defense would need to be trending in the right direction for me to have even a semblance of confidence. Their inability to win anything but a high scoring game makes it pretty obvious that they're headed towards a top 14 pick.

What is the definition of top shelf guy?

Because nothing Stolarz has done suggest he WON'T be a top shelf guy. 2nd round pick. Was great for the Knights in the Regular and Post season, has been great for the Phantoms when he's played. Raw skills and Physical tools? Well the man is 6 foot 6, 220 pounds, and that doesn't in any way shape or form effect his movement, the guy is quick. Are we talking future about potential?

Last 2 goalies i remember being considered can't miss prospects were Markstrom and Jack Campbell? maybe im missing someone else... their stats don't even compare to Stolarz in his first pro season. Now there's a long way to go in the AHL season but i don't forsee a huge drop in Stollie's numbers.

If Hagg is considered a top shelf guy, than so does Stolarz.

I agree though that the rest aren't, at best with Alt you've got 6/7 maybe 5th dman, Straka and Leier and Cousins all basically 3rd line players.

- Yosimar89

I think Leier might be a better player than people think. I have some hope for that kid.

I read two end of the year "Who will make the playoffs" articles and the Flyers never got a mention.

I'd be shocked if a coaching change happens before the end of the season.
- BiggE

I think they only make the move before then if they determine that Chief isn't getting it done in terms fostering the expected incremental improvements at a pace that will have them not playing like poop when the window truly opens 2-3 years from now.

Results be damned, he's supposed to be sowing the field right now.

Lindblom with a huge chance and the Russian goalie tells him to smell the glove.

I like him too. I'm thinking he could be a good 3rd/4th line player who kills penalties.

Yeah, figured that after he got robbed by the russian goalie.

He's playing with the big boys, line 1 or 2. Nylander looks impressive.

Yeah. He seems like a guy who blends well with skilled players. Like a Knuble/Raffl type.

edit: now obviously goalie is a very different position and all about timing really. If you're stuck behind a Tuuka Rask you won't really get a chance to show those things of for a while and could be traded for pieces i.e. Markstrom but talent wise i think Stolarz definitely deserves to thought of as a top shelf guy.

It's harder with goalies to judge. Henrik Lundqvist was a 7th rounder. Quick was a 2nd, Mason a 3rd.

Stolarz has been largely good in the OHL & AHL. Still most don't rate him as a future stud goalie.

I think Leier can be a very good third line winger, who can play two way hockey, give speed and hands & who can fill in on the PK & PP

Hey Red Wings can't be the only team to find gems late in the draft!

Goalies are so unpredictable. You can't really rate them until they show something in the NHL.

They've given themselves a chance to find one. Between Ghost, Hagg, Stolarz, Lindblom, Aube-Kubel, Leier and others, you'd think at least a couple of those guys would become quality players and one maybe an impact player.

In five to replace a distasteful 5th OT goal.
