Fixed.
How do you measure what guys take away in the neutral and defensive zone? Is Corey Crawford as good as his numbers? Or for that matter was Ray Emery two years ago? Or Darling and Raanta this year? Answer: no, not really. Why? Chicago's defense. And great defensive defensemen, most of whom also contribute offensively.
I like Karlsson too. I just think he's more of a one-way player. For my money, I want the guys who shut the other team down, first, defense-man, starts the break and contributes on the other end. Suter is vastly underrated. Great player. I actually think Weber is a bit overrated. - John Jaeckel
I think its fair to say that Keith likely wouldn't as offensively impressive on the Coyotes (as opposed to on the hawks) and likewise Yandle would likely be more impressive offensively on the Hawks (as opposed to on the yotes). I think playing for the Hawks also probably has a positive impact on Kieths defensive stats as they are a strong possession team.
Not arguing who is better than who but i do think that the argument that Yandle plays for a terrible team does impair his ability to show his full potential. I think nearly every player that was mentioned as better than Yandle would show much more poorly on the Yotes versus their current team. |

I don't want to have too much of a love-in here, but Harry Nillson just happens to be one of my all time favorites. |

I am confused on how you do your math that he is tied for seventh this year. Please explain.
he has 23 points
12 a on powerplay
2 g on powerplay
that makes 14 pp points.
so 23-14=9
that is not in the top 7 - hanleyaj
Nhl.com has him ranked 41 this year
28 last year

But it's not biased: Who puts up more points more consistantly while playing with easily the worst group of forwards over a five year period ? Answer: Keith Yandle
Who puts up the best possession stats in hockey over the same period while playing on a team that favors defense and is not very good? Same answer.
Fact is, outside of Erik Karlsonn, no one has a bigger impact on games. This isn't my opinion, this is just something that is the truth.
Now, I agree there are other factors at play, which is why I don't claim he's the best of the best....but certainly anyone objectively looking into it must at the very least rethink their ideas about what makes a good defenseman and where Yandle ranks vs the rest of the NHL.
Erik Karlsson, Drew Doughty, Duncan Keith, Shea Weber....I think we can all agree those are the four best all-round Dmen in hockey. But after that, it gets extremely subjective and if you wanted to call Yandle #5 you have A TON of data to back up that statement. - James_Tanner
This is the same argument made for Ryan miller being one of the top goalies in the league for years playing on one of the worst teams with a horrible defense and he was still putting up elite numbers. He gets traded to St louis on a great defensive team that has been a Stanley cup contender that only needed a good goalie and he craps the bed and was labeled overrated just like that. While I agree with you that it is hard to compare players playing for bottom of the barrel teams to elite teams, I dont think Yandle is as good as you believe him to be and could easily end up like miller. He would be a #1 guy on a lot of teams but on the elite teams of the league I think he would end up being a #2 or #3. Like JJ said I view his situation similarly to Hjalmarsson's great player who could be a #1 in alot of other places in the league but isn't because hes on an elite team with two elite guys in front of him.

Granted there are 34 players on the list, but his 9 ES points ties him for ninth most. - James_Tanner
There are 30 players with more ES points than him this year on that list. He is tied for 31st. |

He's technically tied for the 7th most points (as in the league leader has 16 ES points which is 7 more than him) however there are currently 30 players that have more points than him. |
