Wasn't the PK a strength of this team last year?
Maybe Kimmo Timonen, even at his age, was better than we all thought. - johndewar
He definitely held this defense together. Its so blatantly clear now. Coburn looks like a lost dog without him. That doesnt say much for Coburn and his career. |

Kimmo and even Adam Hall are missed on this PK. Sorry Zombie just doesn't cut it on ANY special teams. Plus Read is having a bad year

Simmonds has been fine even strength. Scored a big game winning goal against wild. His has improved greatly in his even strength play over the past couple years. Laughton is a bit in over his head if we think he's going to score at a 2nd line NHL pace. He's just not ready for that. That whole line had trouble with getting good scoring chances. Yotes d is excellent. They prob wouldn't want any of our guys that's how bad the disparity is - Just5
I don't expect that. I still see him as 3rd line center. His speed and skills would be solid as a checking line center. I always likie to bring up the old Devils teams and their checking line of Pandolfo - Madden and Begin. They had skills but their defensive game and speed allowed them to give other teams problems. With Laughton and possibly Lerier you could have that. |

By the way, Sean Couturier has as many even strength points (15) as:
Ryan Johansen
Joe Pavelski
Nathan MacKinnon
Marian Hossa
Brad Richards
Jordan Eberle
Tomas Plekanec
Kyle Turris
And more than:
Jason Spezza
Jeff Skinner
David Perron
Scott Hartnell
Chris Kunitz
Jaromir Jagr
Gabe Landeskog
Anze Kopitar
Eric Staal
Wayne Simmonds
Alex Steen
Paul Stastny - NickTheKid87
Couts has been much better of late. Could reach 20-25 goals if he keeps it up. Even with those stiffs Read and Umberger flanking him this season. Impressive. |

If questions about his finishing ability continue to dog him, and dudes like Marner and Kylington pass him, chances are he could drop into the 5-10 range. - Tomahawk
Another power forward that can't finish? I'd shy away from a player with a question mark like that. Look at Zack Kassian and Tom Wilson. I'll take skill over size in today's NHL. |

I think that's a little optimistic... they couldn't be that lucky. They'll be just good enough to slip back to around 10.. at least.. |

Matt Read actually has the same amount of even strength points as Simmonds (11). |

Not sure it's even Kimmo... passing lanes all over the damned place... like Feanor said above, they tweaked the thing over the summer for the worse.
Last time I checked, even the goalies were turning in better SH SV%'s from last year. |

and of course Homer trades the 2nd away when the Flyers stink and a good draft year |

Haha why? They arent cup material for another 4 years minimally regardless - Just5
You mean this dreadful Cup drought is going to reach 41, 42, 43, 44 years?? |

If they get in the 3-5 range and then can get another 1st somehow. Maybe in a deal for Coburn or something it would be a nice start. I really want a winger in this draft. |

19 years old and he made a mistake?? Utter bust, trade immediately for a 4th round pick.
- BiggE
Actually I think Morin has played really well.....he moves between the 6-7th d spot and is on the first PK unit....his gaff last night was atrocious but that happens....he got speed wheeling behind the net, but lost the puck when he looked up to make the pass....it happens...honestly I think he's trying to do too much some times to show he belongs in the top 4.....when he plays a simple game down low he has really, really looked good. His skating has improved and I really think he projects to be a bloody good D man in the NHL.
From what I've seen so far if another D man gets hurt their would be no drop off in play if Morin got those minutes.

There's definitely a crowd in that 3 to 5 range, but the Flyers are right there in the mix. But you're probably right. |

I think a good number of teams would love to buy low on Read and I don't think Hextall will do something like that. He knows better.

He was excellent on the PK. They also are missing last year's version of Matt Read and Adam Hall's ability to start the PK with a faceoff win and an easy clear.

NO! This team is not one defensemen away from winning the cup, especially if you lose secondary scoring in B Schenn. Stay the course, patience is not a 5 month long process. Trade everything you can of value that is not the 'core' (as defined by Hexy) asap or at the TDL at the latest. Fire the coach over the off season. Draft well and hire someone with experience over the summer. Compete in two years once the young D has arrived. Stay the course.
Edit: I am not saying no to this deal (it would be a steal and wouldn't happen) just the idea of trading away many young assets, even for a stud young D man. Stay the course. - coffee junkie

He's not a meathead, tho... good defensively, does the little things pretty well.
As for your last sentence... |

Lots of problems and a lot of holes on this team.
One or even two good drafts won't fix all of them.
This is going to involve a lot of patience.
Some positives. Couturier has continued to show the ability to get the puck to the slot. If he had guys on his wing who could finish he could become a 50-60 assist per season center I think.
G on faceoffs this year. He has really gotten great at the dot.
That's about it.
Loved Streit's assist. Hated how he lost the battle to Vermette on the bad rebound goal. Those two plays highlight the good and bad parts of him game in a nutshell.
Glad to see Mase back but he was not at the top of his game last night. |
