Interesting backread.
I think the Flyers should be a little better than they are. But the record is what it is: Two games under after 36 games played.
The backread is interesting because for a team that isn't performing, there are a lot of sacred cows. I want this team to succeed and I am disappointed in the season overall, and I like some players more than others, but everybody not named Giroux and Voracek has to be expendable in a good hockey deal. Because no matter what I want to think, they are not winning enough hockey games, and this is a results business.
This isn't the 1970s Canadiens we are talking about. They could swap out every player on this roster not named Giroux and Voracek and find adequate replacements, over time. They need to start cutting ties with players who got them here and looking for upgrades -- that is what having vision is all about, and having the stomach to take risks. |

Are you saying that they didn't win because of that? The point was that the need was there for that element in the lineup. - MJL
That element isn't needed anymore in today's NHL. I don't want my D blocking shots, I want them in position to take a man off the rebound. Shot blocking isn't needed.

Tippett's also a coach that seems to be able to adjust and adapt to best fits his personnel. He did well in Dallas with a good team and has worked near miracles in Phoenix - Jsaquella

What I am saying is this: Is this Hextall's team? Does he feel hamstrung by certain salaries? Is he unable to make deals because of term to certain players?
Most importantly, to me: How long before something gets done, things get done, that need to happen to move this franchise forward?
It is ridiculous to me that they have the roster they do, with the salary commitments they have, aren't winning, and not a trade or demotion has taken place.
It's easy to look at old players like VLC and Umberger, who deserve criticism but are also past their primes. They should not bear the sole responsibility for what this team is currently.
I am sick of watching defensemen who can't pass and can barely skate. Forwards who can't receive passes. Players who can't figure out how to consistently kill penalties.
At some point, you are better off trying young players or different players, rather than just running the same guys out there and expecting different results.
Derek Roy, Dany Heatley, etc., were big names in the league once. Victor Stalberg's been waived and demoted. Magnus Paajarvi was a top-10 pick. He's been waived and demoted.
Other teams are discarding players who don't help, them win. It's time for the Flyers to start getting guys off the roster, not scratching them. |

Canada had a lot of time of possession that period, i think as usual this will come down to goaltending.
Demko is looking studly right now.
Is it me or does it not feel like as big as a home advantage that Canada had the last 2 times it was held over there? IDK those building were louder and a lot more rowdy than i remember these two host cities being. |

And another at the end. Some people are making a big deal that lower drafted players are getting more minutes but its still early in the tournament. Also, all those other guys haves played more than Morin. Youd be foolish to think thst the time he missed with the broken jaw hasn't pushed his development back a tad bit. Hes been very solid with the time hes had |

They need to start with Luke Schenn. Not because he is a scapegoat. Not because he doesn't try hard.
But because he isn't good enough to hold down his position in the lineup, scratching him does no good, and he needs to go down to the "A" and work on his game in an environment that doesn't cost the Flyers anything.
Could he get claimed, if you try to send him down? Sure. But who the hell cares? He's a No. 6 defenseman making $3.5 million! You have to ignore his name and who he was traded for and either trade him or hope he gets claimed, because his salary is not commensurate with what he is currently doing. |
