i think its just more a notion of when is enough to finally just cut bait. regardless of name, draft pick, cost of acquisition, potential, or whatever.
right now, luke schenn is a number 6 defenseman making 3.5 mil. not exactly scuderi awful, but still. that type of asset is more on the problem side of the scale than the solution. - stayinthefnnet
Why cut bait now? What would they be gaining by waiving him and demoting him?

Apparently there is a defined moment because your post suggested addressing something when there isn't a defined legitimate reason to do it. Teams do stuff during the year, not just whenever they feel like it, but when there is reasoning behind it. - MJL
if someone offered you a third rounder for luke schenn, i would say there is no time like the present |

Right now, I'm not looking to make any foolish moves, and rash decisions based on overreactions. Luke Schenn is sitting a game, and Del Zotto is playing tonight. That's good because I like everyone else wants to see Del Zotto get another shot and some playing time. That is all that is happening. The Flyers have 8 defenseman on the roster. There is competition for playing time between Schenn and Del Zotto. Schenn played a string of games, not maybe if Del Zotto plays well, he'll get a string of games. I don't see what the problem is here.
A few players were waived by other teams for numerous reasons, now all of sudden Hextall has to follow suit and do the same? - MJL
The only move I have advocated is getting Schenn off the roster, and the only foolish move that will be attached to Schenn, in hindsight, is the decision to acquire him
The guy has been a healthy scratch for parts of the last two seasons. Nothing else is going to harm the Flyers, or him, more than his own play

Exactly -- but trust me, now we are going to have it explained how having that salary commitment is actually great for a player who has been scratched for each of the last two seasons and how,the Flyers can't live without him - AllInForFlyers
Right now, on December 31st is not the time to address the salary commitment. The trade market is barely formed. If they get a deal they like to trade Luke Schenn that they think helps in the future in a variety of ways, adding a better fit in the same or different position, or in a cap maneuver to do something else, then I'm all for it. But waiving Schenn because the Blues waived and demoted Paajarvi? I'll pass on that. I don't see a reason for doing that at this point in time that makes sense.

I'd pass and wait until later and see what happens when the trade market is better formed.

If somebody offered me a 3rd for Schenn, I'd ask them if they wanted me to hand deliver him to their arena.
I'd shop him, see if there's interest and if somebody said they'd take him as a waiver claim, I'd waive him. Cap space and a contract slot are assets. In that regard I don't disagree.
But there's nothing gained by waiving him and sending him down, except the $900K or whatever of cap space. |

There is zero reason to getting him off the roster now by waiving him. Nothing to gain by doing so.

well, it depends on how you view this season. if you are content with just writing it off, and reevaluating in the offseason, then i guess it really is just irrelevant if it occurs right now. but as a fan, i could understand the frustration with watching the repetitious bumbling of passes and lack of skating ability.
at the same time, what exactly is gained by keeping him? if you think you will be able to trade him more in the offseason, then okay, i guess.
but i just dont see him as necessarily a part of a solution going forward. once you have that label, the sand in the hourglass should be dwindling |

i just dont see the market for him ever being that huge. like i said, our semantic dance mainly boils down to our evaluation of the player. no biggie. |

Demko totally interfered with Lazar's ability to put Canada up by two goals in Canada, in a tournament dedicated to Canada's state religion.

A move like that can be made on the off season or closer to the deadline. Trading him now or at the deadline doesn't change the cap picture with the team in LTIR. No urgent need for a contract slot.

haha i would like to see this.
but yeah exactly. if you are an overall negative asset, and you can be moved, it truly is an addition by subtraction. |

No NHL team will pass a draft pick for Luke Schenn. No franking way. No team wants a borderline 6/7 dman that can't skate and carries a 3.6M cap hit. No team. |

I could see the Flyers getting a roster player in return, I wouldn't expect a lot, but I think they could do better then a 3rd. Especially when teams are looking to bolster a playoff roster, injuries come into play, etc. |
