USA will not quit.
4-3, 42 seconds to go.
edit: now it's over, too lackadaisical those last two goals allowed. |

Schenn's been scratched how many games this year? I'm not overreacting to the scratch -- the guy's just a bottom pair defenseman who can't skate. On a below-.500 team, the Flyers can do better. - AllInForFlyers
Sure, but say then send down Schenn and call up Alt. Is Berube going to play Alt? Is Alt ready to play in the NHL? Does it matter if Schenn sits in the press box or plays in Allentown?
Not really. The cap isn't going to be much affected either way, his trade value might not be affected much...as you say he is what he is. Waiving him and sending him down right doesn't help the Flyers much, it just removes one bad player from a roster full of them |

That was a hell of a game.
Have to say, Duclair is pretty impressive. I think we're going to be disliking him immensely for a lot of years to come. |

The question is can the roster slot be improved now, and if it can't why waive him? Seems like more of a deadline, draft period, off season discussion then a 12/31 discussion. - MJL
youre right. the money right now isnt an issue. its more towards next year.
i mainly just sympathize with having to watch the same drivel.
i also do feel like having him out there at the expense of del zotto does in fact hurt the on ice product of the team. |

Don't even have to call up Alt, man. Just make MDZ and Colicacovo the 6/7, move on.
The Flyers won't miss a beat. Just close the chapter on a trade that didn't work out, move on.

Yeah unfortunately nothing to do now. I think it's pretty evident what type of player Luke Schenn is. Flyers made their bed and now they have to lay in it. |

Yeah but sending him down to the A doesn't really do anything for the Flyers. Press box and spot duty seems to be the only move here (again nobody's trading for him unless the Flyers take a horrible contract/player back with them). |

Colaiacovo has durability issues, and is a different player then Schenn is. Del Zotto has been scratched how many games in a row? He was a routine healthy scratch last year in Nashville and only played 25 games last season. Del Zotto also fell out of favor in NY and was not tendered a qualifying offer and was let go. Why no call for the Flyers to waive and cut bait with Del Zotto with his history when he was sitting as a healthy scratch?

Because MDZ is on a one-year contract that is expiring -- this has nothing to do with Del Zotto vs. Schenn.
This has everything to do with Schenn as a player who isn't good enough to not be a candidate to be a healthy scratch for the last two seasons |

Sure it does, because you're giving Schenn's history as a player, as a reasoning for "cutting bait". Del Zotto has a far worse history in the last 3 seasons then Schenn does.
Del Zotto has also not been good enough to not be a candidate to be a healthy scratch, so why no call to cut bait with Del Zotto? If you had suggested the Flyers do so with Del Zotto at this point, I would've responded with the same resistance. There is zero reason to do what you suggest with Schenn.
The Blues are getting Elliott back , and they want to keep Brodeur on the roster until they are sure that Elliott is ready, and they needed a roster spot to do so. They also want to get Paajarvi playing time. There was reasoning behind waiving and demoting him.
I agree with others that this is a major overreaction to Schenn sitting tonight. He has actually played solidly in the last 9 games or so. He's been a +5 overall in that span. They have to get Del Zotto back in at some point. Schenn made some mistakes last game so why not now? It's not a big deal. No reason for the Flyers to make that move. They don't need cap space now, they don't need a roster spot. There is no urgent need for Schenn to get playing time. |

Just like if Nick Schultz performs well enough to earn a contract extension, or like Steve Mason did, and the coach wants to use him, then common sense dictates that a player might not perform well enough to be kept if the coach doesn't want to use him.
That's what I meant earlier about sacred cows -- this is a below-.500 team. But moving even a guy who has been a healthy scratch off the roster is treated like it's being advocated that Giroux gets shipped off |

No need to move him off the roster, when you can just scratch him for tonight and play Del Zotto. Just as there is no hurry to re-sign Schultz right now. |
