I wouldn't be too sure. The last three games he's been a PPG player - Streit2ThePoint

Agreed. Signing a 33 year old player who was CLEARLY on the decline to a 5 year deal was just asinine and one of the worst moves Holmgren made as GM. - BiggE
Especially considering the team already had Giroux, Couturier and Schenn at center and Laughton on the way in. There were so many things wrong with that signing. They day it happened, I thought "WHY???" |

If he was scoring 32pts in 39 game pace it would have worked out fine. Oh well... |

Did anyone see what JR (Roenick) said about our young core? To shake things up? What's everyone's thoughts on this? It made me think of packaging Schenn and Coburn with pick(s) to land EDM first round 2015. I don't see us getting much better this year so we could have two great picks including most likely the 1st overall from EDM. I'd prefer to keep Couts tho. - arichardson22
Edmonton would have to get a lot in return for that 1st round pick considering it'll be top 3-5. I'm not sure the Flyers could give them an asset better than McDavid, Eichel or Hanifin for that pick unless they gave up a lot of assets.
IMO, it would have to be something like Couturier, Sanheim, 2015 1st or something like that. Maybe more. |

5 years for a 14 year vet who was clearly declining just made no sense with the already present depth at the position. He hadn't played miss less than 8 games since he turned 30 either. |

Thats probably what will happen. I know a lot of people wont agree with me on this but I will be like to see Coburn leave. Not that I hate him but we need an upgrade and he is complacent on this team now. Also, will be nice to live without his major game changing gaffes. - GOA88
I think if Coburn leaves this year, we are certainly in the running for McEichel... If he goes, that leaves six 5/6 defensemens playing way above their heads. You'll have 3x more game changing gaffes.
I like Coburn -- big, good skater. He just being asked to do too much. |

Speaking of mid-30's players who fell off a cliff, Olli Jokinen has 4 points in 36 games, and two of them came last night. 39% on faceoffs.
He had 43 points just last season. |

Then I would stay put. Not sold on McDavid or Eichel yet. I remember when Lecavalier was once called the next Gretzky or Lemieux..... Nuff said. |

At least he can be slotted into a checking role, tho.
Vinny's only capable of feasting on 4th-line/3rd-pair competition these days. |

I think thats partly because Berube has buried Vinny most of his time as a Flyer.
I'd like to see how much Giroux scores with Umberger, VDV, Rinaldo, Akeson, etc. etc. |

He's been out of his prime for awhile and did most of his damage in the wide open years right after the lockout. Still, that's a big drop. Finally happened to Teemu last year too although he was 43. |

Vinny has played some of the easiest minutes since signing here and has gotten over 2 minutes of powerplay time per game. Last year his most common linemates were Brayden Schenn and Wayne Simmonds and he struggled. This year it started like that but he struggled again which is why his most common linemates are Umberger and Bellemare. Vinny is the reason for Vinny being buried. |

He is no longer a reliable center. On the wing with other talented players he would score 20 again this year. |

Vinny has never played with wingers that compliment his play style. Simmonds and Schenn dont cut it. He needs a playmaking winger. Thats Holmgrens fault for bringing him to a team he does not fit in. |

I have to ask if anyone else has comments about Berube trying to use analytics?
It brings to mind all sorts of painful comparisons to various animals trying to use a smart phone.
That being said, Happy New Year to all. I will be gigging at a nice venue close to the Penn Campus. Wife has to work at 9 AM tomorrow so shes home watching the Flyers on the tube tonight. People in retail are insane opening New Years day.
Watch out for all the amateurs on the road tonight, give plenty of distance if you drive, be careful! |

He had 12 even strength goals last year which was the 3rd worst of his career (worst was the lockout shortened season when he scored 5 and second worst was his rookie year when he scored 11 of 13 goals and even strength). He doesn't warrant top 6 minutes. I wouldn't be opposed to trying him with Voracek at this point but he's been bring his linemates' play down. |
