They originally got Jake in the same kind of trade, so.... - Tomahawk
Same in that it was a two for one deal. It falls a little short though. The Flyers got a defenseman who was a top NHL defenseman for a period of time, and a player who turned into a top PF and 50 goal player. Voracek is a very good player, and I think Couturier is a good player who will get better. I need a top defenseman in return, and I see that as a long shot. |

Hypothetical: Voracek asks for $9 million x 6. Do you pay?
How about $9 x 7? Or $9 x 8?
No right or wrong answer(s)...just curious. - AllInForFlyers
I'd show his agent Giroux's cap geek page and say, "He's not getting more than this guy." |

but but but!
lets not argue in actual dollars.
lets argue in cap proportionality relative to when the deal was signed
and then just make them equal |

Nope. Giroux is Mel Gibson, Jake is Danny Glover. Andrew MacDonald is Glover's annoying ass son, Nick |

It's simple really, you identify your best players and how important they are to the future of the team, and you pay them accordingly. And everyone else falls in below.

Hard to say prior to this season that Jake Voracek was an elite winger in this league but can we begin to call Claude Giroux a top five forward in the NHL at this point? If the season were to end today he'd finish third in points for the third time out of four seasons. Right now he's out producing a healthy Stamkos, Malkin and Ovechkin who all might be considered better. Giroux might not be as good as Toews, Bergeron or Kopitar defensively but he's more capable of playing in important defensive situations. I also believe Giroux is the league's best faceoff man year. |

Giroux and Voracek are 2 superstars in this league. This is Voracek's coming out party. I'd rank Giroux as one of the top 5 centers in the league. I'd rank Voracek as the top winger in the league. |

I thought about this, long and hard.
I'd move Voracek, if it got down to it and that was the path presented that made sense.
But I don't move Giroux, because of what he's done in the playoffs. When it gets deep out there, that dude shows up -- even when he was getting hated on last year against the Rags, he still led the team in playoff scoring.
To me, that's the whole point: Getting a guy who is great in the regular and postseason...that's a guy you don't move unless you are so completely overwhelmed, it becomes comical.
But that's not just with picks. With actual players who you've seen play and perform. - AllInForFlyers
i don't move jake. and i don't make a gamble on either in a package deal...unless it's a blue chip, proven, grand slam mother(frank)ing situation.

Im a huge Voracek fan but before calling him the top winger in the league he needs to do it for a few seasons. For that reason I would take both OV and Kane over him.If you are just looking at this season then certainly you can make the case that he is the best.
The most exciting thing to me about Jake is he is only 25 and has the ability to be the best over a period of years coming up.
As for Giroux, he is the top point producer in the league over the past 5 seasons and he is a proven playoff producer. Yes Crosby has missed substantial time but just like any other stat , durability is an attribute that Giroux thrives at to this point. I would be hard-pressed to easily take other players over him. Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos, Getzlaf are all players you could make cases for. I personally would not take Towes or Tavares over him. I'm not in anyway saying Towes or Tavares are horrible, they are both superstars I am just saying that I would take Giroux over them for various reasons.
I love that he is our captain. I love that he is intense, driven and can dominate games. I don't ever understand the people that cry "he shouldnt be the captain" or "he isn't a good leader" |

sure. it sounds simple in theory
but once your top guys are identified and paid, you still need to try and fill in around them. and that can get tricky. |

I have Giroux as a top 5 forward in the league when you look at his overall body of work both now and past seasons.
Sidney Crosby
Alex Ovechkin
Steven Stamkos
Evgeni Malkin
Claude Giroux
This isn't forgetting Ryan Getzlaf. This is also keeping in mind that Giroux was never handed a number one center role. He's played in the top nine since entering the league and in all situations. The players I have ranked ahead of Giroux have won awards and scoring titles. They've all in recent years have scoring 50 plus goals in recent years. |

button's got him at the 5 spot. i saw that highlight clip of him last week...nice hands, good skater. do you think he'd be available at 6 still or a shoe-in for top 5?
flyers need to draft some forwards - he's got a dman at #6. i know the flyers always say they'll draft by BPA regardless of position or need. not sure i think that's the way to go this year. |
