I'd go at least top 15 in this one if not even most of the 1st round. - ob18
(It would behoove Hexy to get as many top-40 picks as possible... damn you AMac trade) |

It's amazing how that trade can continue to look worse nearly a year after the fact.
Boston's going to end up picking a guy in the top 38 with that pick and probably get a better player than MacDonald. |

Even more reason to move Coburn. Even though he has struggled, I still think a contender will part with a late first for him and I would LOVE to have another 1st, even a late on, in this draft!

Wrong. It's rare that you get the chance to lock up an average #4 dman before it escalates into a bidding war. Holmgren really hit that one out of the park. It's like holmer drove straight to napa valley to pluck AMac. Like so many other of his deals that are like a fine wine |

And Vinny is an all star, don't forget that!

I'd love to load up on picks. I really wonder what Hexy's plan is for that. I hope that he's trying to remake the defense.
I really hope that the goal isn't to just land a number one. It would definitely help matters, but they really need to revamp. |

Looking back at the 2nd-round of 2003... you know what's crazy? Bergeron, Carle and Weber were all taken w/ compensatory picks that teams got for having players leave to sign big contracts elsewhere in UFA (Holik, Guerin, Belfour etc).
Meanwhile, the Flyers manage to piss away a top-40 pick because they couldn't wait until July1 to sign a guy to a big UFA contract.

Trade Coburn for late 1st.
Trade Read for 2nd.
Draft Hanafin/Kylington
Shop Read and Coburn picks for pure LW.
Buyout RJ
Trade Vinny and eat up to 50% if necessary.
Bring in Ghost and Leier. |

But MacDonald was vital, otherwise they would have had to play Gustafsson |

but if everybody knows how good this draft is then maybe nobody wants to part w/ a second for ANY of the guys we had hoped would bring a return like that a few months back..... |

That's a big concern. With the talent in this draft class, teams might not be willing to move 2015 picks. Hextall might end up having to wait to move guys until next TDL |

Contenders won't care about the draft, they will be focused on winning a cup. To them, guys like Coburn, Grossmann, Streit, and Schultz have legit value. |

They won't even come close to a playoff spot. This club is significantly weaker, especially on D and on the pk, than last years club which barely squeaked in. Also our division is stronger than last year as the Islanders and Caps are better and, now that they are getting healthy, so is Columbus.
The following teams will definitely finish behind the Flyers: Carolina and Edmonton
The following teams will likely finish behind the Flyers: Buffalo and Jersey
And, the following could finish behind the Flyers: Ottawa and Arizona.
That leaves them picking anywhere from 3rd to 8th, or, god willing, 1st.
They will get a very good player with that pick, and, at this point, it's all we really have to look forward to in the near future. - BiggE
I think they'll pick in the 8-12 range. They are pretty good at home because it allows them to sneak G and Jake on the ice a lot more against 2nd and 3rd pairings. Their home-road split is 24-20 away remaining.
Their remaining schedule doesn't look too daunting either. Several games remaining against Carolina, Buffalo and Ottawa. |

Tough position for Hexy with the d playing the way they are and the contracts associated with some of those stiffs.....they never have been able to replace Pronger....all though that's a tough go...Timo as a 28 year old ...maybe...as a38 year old ? No.....they seem to reach ie Macdonald and Schenn ....now their stuck. |

Yeah, though I have to wonder if Giroux is going to miss some games down the stretch. He is taking some vicious hits in recent games, and, once they are fully out of playoff contention, he may be held out of some games with minor injuries.
This team has shown little heart, and after some pieces are likely moved for picks at the deadline, they can and probably will, fall completely apart. I really don't see them picking any later than 8th or 9th and I'm guessing they will end up between 5th and 7th.

Hanifin is a stud. For the draft gurus how does he rate coming out compared to ekblad last year? - Just5
Ekblad is more physical and has a better shot. Hanifin is a better skater and very effective at using his body (not to hit, but to separate people from pucks). Both have the same poise beyond their age.

I don't advocate trading any of those players at all, but it does worry me that, although I agree with the patient approach to rebuilding the D, I worry that Giroux and jake may be past their prime when our D is championship caliber. Very few trades are made in today's NHL and much of the team building goes on at the draft. I just don't think there is much Hextall can do right now. - Hextall271
exactly... i dont wanna see it happen but this patient approach is a double edged aword i dont trust considering the age gaps between our current franchise guys and prospects. thats why i really believe if theyre gonna go that route do it right. |
