It's pretty much common sense. A 24 year old with that kind of size and skill is always going to a very coveted commodity, no matter how well or poorly playing. The question is whether or not he can put it all together to be an absolute stud. He regressed after his rookie year, but appears to be getting back to the level he's had during his rookie year. The question is, how good is that really? - buffalofan19
I agree
I know I may come off as a Myers "hater"
I do like him, just not as much (obv) as some of the Myers "lovers" on here.
I think if we keep him he'll be a really good 2nd pair guy for us.
Reasons I don't think he's a "top pair" guy...
-he's not a "shutdown" defenseman
-he doesn't carry the play like Keith or like Lidstrom or Niedermayer used to
-besides his rookie year, he hasn't been very good offensively
Now this is all good for us, BC if he's on our 2nd pair we should have one heck of a defense
It annoys me when ppl make statements of how Murray loves him and so do all the other scouts & GMs in the league
If this is true, great
Post some links with quotes...
1) to back up the point
2) BC I'd find this very interesting & would def wanna read those articles!

I don't know. I would think if I was a GM my first call to Murray would be on Reinhart or Zemgus. I'm not saying I dislike Myers cause I don't at all. But I think it's fair to question why six years into the league is Myers struggling to reach just his rookie form? Is it him, is it coaching? I know I'm not the only one in the fanbase who had high hopes for Tyler after his successful rookie season. Of course there is the fact that defenseman take longer to come around and develop, so we could always bank on his potential for a few more years. Even if he taps out where he is at now, he will be a solid 3/4 defenseman for this team for years to come. But I think it's safe to say we all expected a little more out of him. |

Myers is more seasoned. He's a little older, but nowhere near too old, and his body is more developed. If you're just looking to add an impact player with little concern as to when he's ready to play (i.e. you're rebuilding), you might be more inclined to ask for Reinhart or Girgensons, but if you're looking to add a roster player that can have a significant impact right now, your best shot at it is Myers. |

There is no doubt for a contending team he is a huge add for any team looking to make some noise in the playoffs. |

He has been a shut down defensemen this season.
He has a 36% offensive zone start % on the worst possession team in hockey
Of course his offense isn't there. He has been on for less even strength goals than most of the defensemen despite playing the most minutes against the toughest competition. He's the teams best defensemen right now and it isn't close

Sabre fan logic:
Who ever the best player available is, he is automatically the guy we need to turn things around
Who ever on our team gets mentioned as trade bait, sucks, yet will net us a great return. |

Agreed, but my question is, how good is that really? Ristolainen and Zadorov have showed promise, but they still have a lot of growing to do. Saying you're the best of a very bad (or even very young) bunch doesn't say much. You can't measure it now, but his real value will be measured if he keeps playing like this when there are expectations of him. He failed at it his first time around. A lot of that had to do with age, and the team around him wasn't the best built, but the fact is, I'm looking for someone to be the reason this team is good, not someone that is good because of what he has a really good team around him. You can plug those holes at just about any time. |

I think all 3 will be good enough.
Even if we are forced to draft Hanifin, great add him in.
Keith wasn't Keith until the Hawks were the Hawks....as dumb as that is to read.

I've said it time and time again. The glaring weakness of the Sabres is their forwards. A good group of forwards takes so much pressure off the D. Plus better forwards means more scoring which means more points from D-men... |

Hanifin didn't wow me at all this tournament. He wasn't good, but he wasn't spectacular either. |

We need some forwards with some creativity. And able to make accurate passes and hit the freaking net IF they shoot. |

That's definitely true. And it was the case ever since 2011-2012 when Pegula took over. The bolstered the defense by signing Myers long term, trading for Regehr, and adding Christian Ehrhoff. Then they decided that they only needed Ville Leino to bolster an already underwhelming forward group. |
