Just finished back reading. I was in support of signing Schultz on here yesterday but if Bill is correct and 3 - 3.5 is the going rate, no way.
I'd still like to see some combination of Macdonald, Coburn, Grossmann, Schenn traded by the deadline. Trade 2, bring up Manning and you have 7 day for the rest of the year.
Hopefully they can get some takers on Vinny this summer and if we hit the jackpot, Umberger. I'd be willing to eat some salary in trading either, just not willing to deal picks with them.
I'm not in a rush to trade Read unless it upgrades the team. Yeah, it's been a bad year but I can't believe he fell of the cliff that quickly.
Looking forward to the off-season.
And if Berube thinks they are playing good D, he is delusional and needs to canned now. - FlyerFan16

If Meszaros got a 3rd, then Schultz should be worth a 2nd and Coburn should return a 1st at the deadline. That still leaves you with Streit, MacDonald, LSchenn, Grossmann, MDZ and Colaiacovo as top six to finish out March & April. - Feanor
Gotta find a way to get Schenn or Grossmann or MacDonald out of here, too -- they are already solidly picking top 6. There is no reason that one more of those guys needs to be on the roster |

Right, because that's never screwed up a young defenseman. - puckhead17
Yup, all those guys who were ruined by too much opportunity and too much leash. |

I know, but your only mentioning the names that weren't ruined.
And all stud players as well.
I just don't see that method as a win/win, without possible consequences.

Taking a look at the standings... If things hold the same I'm looking at Nashville and Winnipeg. Two teams that will have a tough road ahead of them in the western playoffs.
I wouldn't mind something like
Read to Winnipeg for a 2nd
Rinaldo to Nashville for a 3rd or 4th(he is the kind of guy you go "he got what at the deadline?")
Coburn to Edm for Pitt's 1st
That gives us a ton of room for moves at the draft. |

Coburn will net a first from a playoff team. I have no doubt

That stuff doesn't matter. At the TDL, body of work, size and contract are paramount
The fact Coburn is signed for cheap next year means they will get a first, from someone. Wish it was a prospect-plus, but the first will do |

You would get more for "your dirty undies, dude", than for Rinaldo.

It is frustrating. They should not be this bad, but the pieces just don't fit properly

Agreed. Schultz could get a conditional 2nd. Something similar to the Mez Deal |

Team sucks, but kids get a lot of valuable experience. Not all of them will pan out, of course, but at least you'll never regret not having given them a fair shake -- a la Gus. |

Makes you really wonder if its the coaching, or if it could be better?
I know it's better for the long run to sell off, but losing really sucks! |

Yup. Someone will give up a 1st for him. Sekera and Petry are really the only other top 4 guys likely to be dealt. They're more mobile. For the team looking for a defensive defensman you can play heavily Coburn is that guy. Looking at GA/G numbers the Isles could be that team. As could Dallas or Toronto if they can hold on in the standings. |

I think the Berube situation can be summed up rather easily
a) you thought this team was a playoff caliber team and you aren't seeing the results you like. in this regard you fire him
or
b) you thought this team would be exactly like it is right now, struggling a great deal. in this case you keep him until you feel someone can come in a do a better job. |

I'm in group B, and as much as I dislike Berube, I don't fire him now. Serves no purpose. See who is available in the spring/summer. No need to jettison Berube, unless he's hurting development, and I honestly don't feel that is the case at this juncture.
By end of season, he'd be gone. |

I hate it, but I don't look at it as simply selling off, though I realize it is a matter of semantics and you get to the same place.
But for me, the Flyers would be breaking up,a roster that simply isn't good enough. How deep, the cuts go can be debated, but they have to come to grips that this roster isn't good enough and multiple players need to go

If the word "three" comes from Schultz, then he gets moved one second later, in my book
God bless him if he gets it elsewhere, but he would be getting it elsewhere |

As for the "fire sale" debate
I for one am all for it. I get those that say you couldn't find people to come in and do a better job, but let me as you this. How many times do you have to hit yourself in the head with a hammer until you say "Ouch this hurts?"
They can't keep continuing to throw this team as it is constructed out there until April. You need to start packaging players for deals so that way you can at least use the rest of the season to see where you are at, not onlly for 2015-16, but for seasons to come.
I honeslty would like at what you could get for a Couturier/Read package. And take anything you can get for any of our defensemen
Face it guys, the years of being first or 2nd round exits in the playoffs are over. Le'ts try and build a legit Stanley Cup contender |

I also wonder, (going back), if anyone would give you a 1st for Coburn, right now.
He's really struggling, and should be way better than he's been.
I wouldn't sell him off for anything less. |

Coburn gets a back-end first whenever they move him. The league is frustrating, but consistent. Someone in the range of 23-30 is going to pick him up |
