Winning goaltender Steve Mason turned back 41 of 42 shots in regulation and overtime before stopping four of five in the shootout. The Flyers' goaltender was named the game's first star.
Mason definitely earned that win and 1st star. Was an outstanding game for him.
Ottawa's lone regulation goal was scored in controversial fashion by Mike Hoffman at 6:36 of the third period.
On the play, Voracek turned the puck over up high in the defensive zone with Giroux and Brayden Schenn in the neutral zone. Jared Cowen appeared to bring the puck in (very narrowly) off-side before the Senators' touched up at the blueline but no Senators touched the puck over the blueline until Hoffman received the pass after his line had already touched up.
It looked to me like G was off-side on the play where Schenn got hooked and the Flyers scored on the resulting PP. Quite a few very close plays at the line this game.
Happy for the players, bummed for the lottery pick. |

Every dog has it's day? Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while? Sometimes pigs fly and hell freezes over. Even....

Giroux shouldn't have played. He clearly isn't at 100% and I have no interest in causing further damage at this point in this season. - orangecrush8
I think if he was at risk of causing future damage, he would not have been cleared to play.

Just a quick thought:
Although he's not a prototypical 1st line winger, Raffl had some very nice chemistry with Giroux and Voracek. But it seems like, at the first sign of distress, he's swapped off that line for some mix of Simmonds/Schenn/Lecavalier/Van de Velde/Umberger/etc. And it seemed like the team, as a whole, was playing better with him on that top line. Just wondering why Chief won't leave him there and let them stay together past 1 loss.
Actually, I do know the reason (Chief's gonna Chief) but I don't like it. |

Let's first see if we can figure out why Hamburglar has yet to visit the press box, then we can dive into everything else.

I didn't understand it earlier, but as of the last few weeks, he's been playing like a legitimate NHL player. |

I am just glad Hextall said he is following his plan no matter if they go on a run or not. I would still like some moves to help the future like another 1st rounder if possible. |

I was telling someone this very recently. It doesn't make sense, at least on paper, for Raffl to be on that top line. But when you see them all together, they do have some very nice chemistry. Raffl isn't the toughest, biggest, physical guy out there--but he has the foot speed, size, and hands to really create some space for Jake and G.

Toronto media stirs it up. There's a picture of Babcock in Toronto scribe today.
" Leaf Nation still hopin", even though Babcock states he is happy where he is.
I guess the Shanahan/ Red Wing connection is there |
