Do you think that Toews, Messier, or Pronger could make THIS team win by sheer will? I don't. - MJL
No, but I don't think Giroux could make any team win by sheer will. He could make a good team win by playing well and leading by example on the ice, however. |

I think Pronger had a legendary handle on the media. G is good with them but Pronger would hand them their crap right back and they'd lick it off his fingers and beg for more. I miss his looks of "you're an idiot and you know it", or "REALLY? Did you just lower yourself to ask me that" look.
In other aspects I think G does a fine job... - FlyersGrace

the reasoning is either to a) get more picks in this draft or b) get additional picks/assets that can be packaged to move up and get mc eichelifin .... - hogweed
I just don't think they're in any position to deal multiple pieces for one piece. Even if that piece is a young one. They don't have the depth in the franchise to sustain it, especially at forward |

this photo deeply pains me. not because i shed a tear for the whalers, but you can see how much this woman is hurting. as apathetic as i am right now, i would probably literally die if the flyers moved to another city. i'm not kidding. |

i got an emergency call to play last night - one of the teams on the ice before my game was wearing those red/black/white plaid tuxedo jerseys. i'd never seen one in person before. i thought they were bad, but when you see an entire team of poopty hockey players skating in them in front of your very eyes, it changes you. |

Sportswise that would leave with nothing left in this city. So I pray it never happens.

Agreed. On the other hand, how the hell do the Ottawa Senators have a fan base? I'm assuming all of their fans (over the age of 21) were fans of other teams before, and that they would bring their children up more or less as fans of those same teams. You may take an interest in them as the local team since you can go see them, but if another team started playing in Delaware or South NJ, everyone that is a Flyers' fan would stay one. |

Why? You can go down to the WFC during basketball season and see the NBA's premier collection of crippled young talent. |

it's a good question. the same is true of the devils wrt your point about ottawa. i don't know how the league allowed that move from denver. i'll never understand it.
i love my home state, but cripes i (frank)ing hate devils fans to their (frank)ing core. hate them. |

LOL true, but I don't really like basketball. I used to during the days of Magic and Doc and Bird....but after Jordan retired the game lost me.

To me, the Devils play in a different state. It's basically New York, but without Broadway. However, with the Devils, they really DON'T have a fan base to speak of. |

I don't even know how to put it. But if a guy like, well, let's say Toews, came out a made a "There will be a game 7" type of prediction, people would tend to believe it more than if Giroux or Crosby said it. Guys like Toews, Messier, or Pronger have that very stern quality where they seemed able to will themselves and their team to win, I guess, and I don't think Giroux can, right now. I think he's a good captain and a great player, but I don't think he can make his team win by sheer will power. - jmatchett383
people set their minds up, and then just dismiss or categorize everything based on confirmation bias.
its hogwash to such a large extent. if pronger steals or bats away a puck, people ooh and ah over his presence. crosby swats away a glove, hes instantaneously a child who is losing his control.
i wouldnt claim to say either of them are the best, but i think giroux and crosby are both fine. crosby works harder than pretty much everyone in the league, despite having basically everyone in the game willing to enshrine him from day one. and giroux, i dont know how to explain it, but when he gets a bug up his ass there is a fire there like few players possess. |

I agree with the last part. I think they're both fine captains. And yes, when Giroux gets seriously fired up, he plays like a madman. And I think that he is capable of leading the Flyers to a Cup, granted they fix some of the problems they have.
My only point is that Pronger could pretty much with a game with his glare alone. Messier could do the same with his scowl. So yes, he's a fine captain, just not my preference if I have my choice of anyone. |
