nhl network keeps talking bout babcock going to toronto... damnit dont tgey know our coach is really fired too?! - JoeRussomanno
Its been said babcock wants coach/gm duties and that is why he is not resigning in Detroit....with all the news coming out of toronto recently, they are likely to fire the gm as well. |

The GM is the one who should have been fired. |

Just a quick thought:
Although he's not a prototypical 1st line winger, Raffl had some very nice chemistry with Giroux and Voracek. But it seems like, at the first sign of distress, he's swapped off that line for some mix of Simmonds/Schenn/Lecavalier/Van de Velde/Umberger/etc. And it seemed like the team, as a whole, was playing better with him on that top line. Just wondering why Chief won't leave him there and let them stay together past 1 loss.
Actually, I do know the reason (Chief's gonna Chief) but I don't like it. - jmatchett383
The Flyers have really only one consistent offensive line, and that's the top line with Giroux and Voracek. Berube has been using that pair, and that line to try and get other players going offensively. He put Read up there to try and get him going offensively, and now he's trying to spark plug Schenn who hasn't scored a goal in 12 games, going. It's a reasonable strategy. |

Mason was terrific. Glad he was rewarded.
A shootout win! What's next? Locusts, fire, the mumps.... |

How involved is Brendan Shanahan in Toronto in day to day decisions? How much autonomy will I have?
That would be a question I would have if I were interviewing for a coach or GM position in Toronto. Will Shanahan give a guy like Babcock the autonomy he might want? |

Giroux shouldn't have played. He clearly isn't at 100% and I have no interest in causing further damage at this point in this season. - orangecrush8
Well....he gutted it out and was still a very noticeable player on the ice.
But it was obvious he was struggling a little bit.
I'm ok with him playing as long as he's contributing. |

From what they make it sound like in toronto is that Nonnis reports to shanahan... |

It is. Although he took too long to implement that strategy in my opinion.
I'd also like to experiment with splitting G and V up at ES. We will probably see Berube do so in about a month. |

Right.
So how much autonomy does Nonis have to make deals?
How much does Shanahan micromanage the day to day operations, if at all? |

I feel bad for Mason. He's playing at an all star level, but will never get the recognition because he's playing behind such a poopty team and poopty PK. #6 in ES Save% amongst starters |

Watching him lumber around the ice made me wonder why they let him play. On the other hand, I don't think he can make the injury worse by playing, so I guess it doesn't matter. He was still very effective.
Sitting Giroux is basically like conceding losses at this point. They rely on him to preform miracles for this team. |

Is it possible, at all, that the national media may recognize that the Flyers' biggest problem is their defense, and that the goaltending issue has (more or less) been solved? |

It's a tried-and-true personnel management strategy.
Example: In the two season before the Flyers acquired Reggie Leach, Fred Shero would often plug struggling players onto the top line with Clarke and Barber to try to get them going. Even afterwards, it wasn't uncommon for one of the top three to be temporarily moved to another line. |

If there was any chance of causing further damage he would not have played. And I agree that he isn't at 100% but a partial Giroux is better than a full Rinaldo any day. |

The Flyers' PK at home is fine (84.5 percent on the season to date). It's on the road where the PK has been a disaster. |

It was nice to see him get a win like last night when the team usually loses those types of game for him. |

He looked bothered by it, but seemed to get around enough for Ottawa to have to account for him.

The good writers recognize the problems with this team. You can watch 1 period and recognize the problems. |
