You're being unfairly critical of the coach here. Obviously if he scratches a player for ten games there a reason, because a coach employed by a NHL team is unable to be wrong and only a jerk would dare criticize him.

We could have had John Carlson.
Just sayin. - jmatchett383
Just to add to that sad thought: the Flyers chose Sbisa over Carlson, Voynov, Josi, and Harmonic. In 2011 the rumor was they were going to pick Siemens over Hamilton if Couturier didn't fall, and they had morin and Mueller over Ristolainen according to that Flight Plan video. Its debatable the Laughton over Maatta even though defense was a much bigger need than center at the time.
So take all that, combine it with only drafting 5 defensemen in the last 25 years who played more than 300 games at the NHL level, or 4 seasons, and does everyone still feel good about the likelihood of the defense prospects being special? |

I'd like to believe that an interest by the Flyers is not an automatic curse on the kid. |

I remember that crusty old flyer scout whining and crying about wanting to draft morin Bc of he has the ability to be "hard". No one putting up an argument. Morin gets whisked up to the top of the board |

Still feeling good about Sanheim. Ghost's been delayed, but he's still a pretty good find.
Morin and Hagg are iffy, but no signs that either will be as hopeless as Siemens (man, are you serious that they had him over Hamilton??).
I'd be lying if I told you I felt confident... but at least they've got bullets in the barrel. |

IDK about Hagg but Morin looks to be a good one. Even though he is raw still.... He deserved to make the opening night roster but his development was more important. |

Dunno... Hagg was a pretty nice pick at that spot. Not really upset about that one.
Everybody knows how much I'm obsessed w/ Morrissey, tho. - Tomahawk
Bowey looked pretty good in the WJC. Granted small sample size and all that stuff. |

The Flyers track record isn't great. Hopefully they will just keep drafting them in bulk. One or two have to develop. Right........Right? |

If you want to call them out for missing out on someone special there, Nic Petan is probably the better case.

Deserved to make opening night roster? He could not make top 6 on a team of 20 year olds. It looks like he could use a season with the Phantoms before he makes the big club. He looks a little slow to me |

Who have they developed in the last quarter century? Chris Therien? Who else...
Anyone.... Anyone.... Anyone....

They could have come away with Morrissey, Petan, and Duclair...
Instead we got Chris Mcallister, and Zac Rinaldo redux. |

Chris Therien was the only one who actually played long term with the Flyers. The scary part is only 4 other guys in the last 25 years made it 4 seasons: Yushkevich, Niinimaa, Seidenberg and Pitkanen. So it's not like they are trading away young guys before they develop. They aren't even recognizing NHL-level defense talent. Those 5 guys are the best and none of them are anywhere near great players. |

He looked pretty damn good during camp and preseason. Dont forget he broke his jaw before playing the WJC.
He was as fast or faster than any defencemen we currently have. It might not be saying much but..... |

I am sure injury did set him back a bit. If he was anywhere close to NHL level of play you would think he would have been playing a bigger role with the " junior" team.
I want the kid to do well because we need all the help we can get. I just don't want to rush him and have him turn out to be another Luke Schenn. A classic case of a young
guy being rushed into a crap Maple Leaf lineup.

Which are the best teams, historically, at picking and developing D? Are we the worst? I'll expect the report on my office later today. |
