this was kind of my point, henrik is a soft player. but he isn't a POS or a soft person (he did have the ironman streak for a while). I would never diminish his accomplishments, but get defensive when people say RNH has teeny tiny shoulders and will get manhandled in this league. there is evidence to the fact (st. louis etc.) that smaller players (even though RNH isn't small anymore) can succeed and have a long lasting career - massa_3
I think that was the problem for some.
RNH is the #1 centre on the oilers so yes technically he's a #1 centre in the NHL. But RNH hasn't played a full season yet. Let's give him some time to develop physically before we anoint him as a top 10 or 20 #1 centres in the league at this point of his career. Way to much expectation for someone so early in his career.
Please don't ask me to list 20 centres better than RNH.
It would have been nice to see a management group be able to handle their prospects properly. So many franchises don't. To have been able to develop the this group of young talent slowly, putting them into situations where they could succeed and grow self-confidence, would have been amazing. |

Most teams lack the depth to allow their prospects to develop properly.
Detroit as a prime example has amazing veteran depth which is why they have no issue letting prospects play in the AHL until they are ready.

Ever think that the young guys miss more games because the Oilers have no need to play them when they are even a little injured? They are not cup contending teams so why risk anything with them. As for size, he doesn't have a ton of meet on him but neither did Nail or Mackinnon till this summer and now they have meet to them. No one knows how RNH will be next year or 10 years down the road. All we know is he has tons of potential.
As for developing? What was RNH going to learn from another season with the Rebels of the WHL? Different if high end rookies could go to the farm teams but Oilers pretty much had to play him and he earned his spot.

Building that depth takes the better part of a decade if not longer, look at the wings teams of the 80'2 and early 90's as an example of having it wrong, then fast forward to now |

The Oil will get to the point in a couple years hopefully where they will have to buy some role players to go with their young talent. Def and Goal seem most likely. Probably a second line winger. |

"Meet"? Really? Yak also had a lot more mass and thickness to his frame when he was an 18 year old, than RNH did at that point, or even still does. |

1) Seguin plays wing for the most part.
2) MacKinnon see Seguin.
3) Duchene that's debatable at best.

I don't think MacKinnon or Duchene are better than Nuge today. Maybe MacKinnon in the future though. Kid is lightning fast.
Also, Kesler? Barf. |

He also blatantly forgot Tyler Bozak. He's basically a Selke candidate being dragged down by two PPG wingers and 5 minutes of PP time a night. Poor sod. |

IS it your arrogance as an entitled canucks fan or just ignorance that prevents you from giving credit where credit is due? "Technically"? Seriously? He also played 80 games last year, so yes he "Technically" didn't play all 82, but are you seriously suggesting that 80 games does not constitute playing a full season? Or do yo just really not have very much knowledge of the player you are talking about? - ruttager17
Not arrogance. I was only agreeing with Chet:
On the Oilers, RNH is the 1C as that is the position he plays as he is the most talented. Therefore, RNH is a 1C. Hell, if you want, we can see he is a 1C by default.
-Chet
Sorry the word "technically" offended you. Let me get my thesaurus and see if we can find a word more agreeable to you.
Sorry, RNH has played a full season... just like the 20 goals and 40 assist he amassed the same season. Right? Hell, we are rounding up so why not? |

Oh Chet, the original question asked by leaf fan was 'we need a #1 centre now" and then went on to ask what it would take to get RNH.
I responded by asking why the (frank) wold you want RNH now, he's not a #1C.
And then you guys went nuts by bringing up henrik, canucks loss in game 7, and general insults to everyone not a oil fan. Talk about volatile.
If you can show me where I started any comparison I will apologize and leave. otherwise let's all get back to the question of RNH being a true #1 centre at this stage of his career.
He's just not and I'm a RNH fan. Local boy. Love to see him on his favorite team. - bloatedmosquito
My bad, I didn't read the whole convo leading up and misconstrued what you said to be that RNH would never be a legit #1 Center. As it stands right now, Nuge is not a legit #1 Center.

RNH and Dutch have almost the exact same stats across the board (minus Faceoffs, Duchene holds the edge in that) and this is considered a bad year for Duchene. RNH is bouncing back nicely after some tough injury seasons but I dont think he is considered debatable yet with Duchene.
I know you love RNH but he still needs to progress to get to where Duchene has been for a few seasons now. Both Young and I think RNH has the higher ceiling for a more complete Center but hes not there now. |
