1st plus a blue chip prospect could get them somebody much better than Coburn, methinks. - Tomahawk

The Blues got JBo for a 1st and 2 barely-still-prospects last TDL. The 1st is worth even more this year, by itself.
1st+top-prospect this year = legit #1 guy? |

I know JBo is better than Coburn, but I'm asking who's available and better than Coburn this year.
I'd be happy with a 1st from a team like LA. A prospect would be a bonus. |

It's a good point, but it's also supply and demand. Even if J-Bo is better, if Coburn is still the "top guy" available this year, he'll command what a top guy commands. |

Just curious. If you had to pick between Phaneuf and Kessel who would you prefer. - J35Bacher
That's a tough call. I guess Kessel.. He can score. Phaneuf does nothing to earn anywhere near his 7M |

Somebody like Seabrook maybe could be shaken loose this summer. |

Even if Coburn is the top available dman, I think it's extremely unlikely he nets a 1st in this draft AND a top prospect. I'm thinking a 1st and 3rd/middle tier prospect at most. I'd expect something more like two 2nds or a 2nd and a decent prospect. |

YOU CAnt' JDuge hINM on PSOESENOON STATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!K - NickTheKid87
Lol, I think people forget that shot-suppression skills are 50% of possession, not just the fancy stuff that turns into shot generation.
Apparently Grossmann just ain't that good of a pure defender, either. |

That doesn't help the Voynov-less Kings this season, though. |

This is all false data anyway since it doesn't align with my beliefs. |

Maybe.
I think depends on team and chances to get to Stanley cup. Maybe a team like Anaheim might give up more because they have a legit chance to win the cup. |

Well, we all know the usual suspects: Yandle, Byfuglien, Phaneuf, Myers, etc.
Maybe add somebody like Methot to that list, since LA loves their big bodies, not that he's worth anything close to 1st + . |

I don't see Anaheim giving up a 1st + one of Theodore/Ritchie/Rakell/Karlsson. Maybe a 1st and Montour or Leblanc. Same goes for LA. A 1st + Zykov/McKeown for Coburn may be a worse deal than trading a 3rd for Schultz (as in the value would be getting Schultz). |

I don't think Byfuglien can be moved since WPG is close to playoffs. |

With those others available, LA wouldn't move a 1st and Zykov for Coburn when they could get a guy like Yandle. If those guys you mentioned are available, it'll keep Coburn's price close to the median and away from the extreme. |

think of it this way...in some parallel universe the flyers are winning the cup, in other we are getting mcdavid, but in this one we are stuck with grossman |

If you would step away from the spreadsheets and used the eyeball test solely, you'd see that Nick Grossmann is indeed a defenseman. |

Agreed, a team like Anaheim is likely giving up a pick between 28-30. I think they'd make that deal if they thought it would improve their cup chances. |
