I didn't see the solid game that Berube and others apparently saw.

Passes to guys in open ice going into skates or out of reach; players running into each other trying to get loose pucks; a late 1st period PP that had Vinny, Umberger and Read on the same line (all 3, really??) and was fortunate to keep the puck in the offensive zone.

That's the short list. I can't put a positive spin on that game. I can't wait to read how wrong I am when I get home tonight...

The only good thing about yesterdays game was being able to get drunk while watching in Key West

I think there is a big difference between playing a solid game, and a perfect game. The Flyers really matched, if not outplayed the Bruins at 5 on 5. The numbers bear that out. Where the game was lost, was the Flyers needed to be better on their PP, they made a bad pass and line change leading to a goal, and the Bruins made a good play on the PK, and the Flyers gave up a shorty.
Where the Flyers needed to be better is in some of the board battles, and getting more pucks and more traffic at the net. Just aren't going to make many passing plays for pretty goals against the Bruins. The Flyers overall played a solid competitive game, but the bottom line is in the end it's another loss.

Still boggles my mind that clean hits still result in fights. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the hit by Schultz. Mcquaid should have been tossed IMO.

Their PP did struggle but that's what happens when you live or die with it. I thought the 5-5 game was pretty even and I can only recall Read having a couple chances, which of course he failed to find net.the Bruins just seemed to have them locked down. The traffic in front of net is ONLY provided by Simmonds. This team needs more people who can provide a physical presence. It really sucks watching this Flyer team. I wish we had another Dman other than Streit that could actually hit the net....you know create rebounds... Get some garbage goals.

Agree, that was BS. I am suprised Simmonds didn't go after him later in the game.

He got 2,5, and 10 on it and the Flyers got a PP, so sufficient punishment was doled out. Just sticking up for a teammate.

It's just another game this year that highlights the deficiencies in the lineup. G line gets shut down and no one else picks up the slack. the talent isn't there to win consistently. Say what you want about berube but they play hard for him and believe in the process. They just aren't good enough

My problem is that it wasn't a dirty hit at all. It's a problem throughout the game. Clean hit needs to be responded to with a fight even though Schultz is not a fighter. I do think someone should hav responded to mcquaid later in the game for going after a non fighter. The team this year doesn't really seem to have any fire when it comes to that stuff.

Yeah, it's pretty stupid that a guy has to fight for a perfectly legal play. I would have liked to see a bit more fight back overall, but I dont think they wilted.

Thanks Bill. Schultz had a great game. He surprised me with his physical play. If the team signs him, I just hope it isn't like our previous D contracts. We have had some bad luck with one hit wonders. Anyway, good for Schultz.
#5, and his turnovers really kill the team; I can't even say his name anymore. #5 needs to be gone by the trade deadline, even if it is for a few picks.
I hope that Mace can recover soon, I know that Emery hasn't played a lot, but he does look a little rusty. Maybe after getting a few games under his belt, he will get his house in order. However, please don't bring back Mace until he has healed. How many times have we seen the Flyers rush a player back from injury? Or worse, trade him while he is recovering. Be patient with Mace. He has been solid in goal for us.
MDZ has picked up his game as well. He is playing much better. Sure, he might have a laps or two, but he isn't playing poorly. I hope that his game shows progression.
However, our search for a 1-2 defensive pairing continues. With most of those guys locked up with other teams, it will be an interesting preseason next year to see if any of the kids can make the step up.

I wonder if Edm wants to throw us 3 2nds still. Man I'd jump on that.

I just hope Hextall is working the phones. This team is not making playoffs and I would like to see what Hextall has planned.

for some reason they kept putting an obviously injured mason back between the pipes despite the ever-waning playoff chances so i'm really not sure i trust the braintrust any more than than i did before.

Couturier's line looked very good creating chances and cycling the puck on offense. They couldn't find the back of the net but that is not an easy task when Rask is on his game. The Flyers at 5 v 5 were winning puck battles but the #1 PP unit was not.

G and Jake and Simmonds are having great seasons but that #1 unit lost the game yesterday imo.

Mase is out for at least a week.
The idea of Emery and this D against Tampa is scary.

Nor did I or can I.

But I did like Berube's comments "A lot of good things today" I saw a small few, not a lot.

"If we play like that we’ll win a lot of game." Not when you give up ES, PP, and a SH goals against and only score one yourself - that is unless you expect the team to remarkably start to play a consistently strong defensive game and your ES scoring to suddenly wake up.

It's perfunctory.

I'm guessing a lot of the time guys are just doing it so they won't look bad, not that they're really pissed at the hit.
