It might be fair, but sign and trades never happen.

I really think the Sens are going to keep Methot, making all of this Anderson for a defenseman talk pointless.

If they were to trade w/ Minnesota for a defenseman- I think a better target would be Scandella. Plays more of a defensive game than Brodin and could be had for cheaper (ie- we could get another decent piece back). We don't need another puck mover to play with Karlsson- we need a big body who will play stay-at-home defense. Scandella is 24 and plays a pretty responsible game.

However, this is a lateral move if we get rid of Methot. I think Methot is better, but 5 years older with some injury concerns...

In terms of quality puck moving defensemen- I think we're set with Karlsson and Ceci for the next 10-15 years. We need guys to insulate them. Cowen looks like he's finally starting to find his game and can be that #3 guy to play with Ceci.

I think Methot is a great option for the next few years, until Claesson is ready- as he looks to be a pretty good option to play with Karlsson in the next few years.. I think they're actually developing Claesson for that role as a stay at home defensive defenseman.

If the Sens win two or three more in a row, I have a bad feeling that Murray will pull the trigger on a trade for a top 6 rental. One of the two 2nds will be going the other way or something similar. A few more wins won't change the fact that the Sens are a pretty bad team this year. It's a strange feeling to being happy with a loss, and also not minding a win.... but I just hope we don't win too often so our naive owner will push for dumb trades.

If what I hear from drafting experts is correct and that this draft is good up until the 45th pick, then we should be holding onto those assets, and hopefully by the trade deadline we are clearly out of it so that we will be sellers. Another first and a high 2nd would be fantastic for the organizations depth.

I'm moderately optimistic that this team will improve, so this might be the last opportunity to restock our prospect pool in a very good draft. Just thinking strategically.

Speaking on the draft, is anybody else surprised at how much Travis Konecny has fallen? I've seen the kid play a few times here in Ottawa and he all indications are that he has high end talent. He's a little on the small side, but I'm sure he can pack on some weight and fill out with a professional organization.

I have been watching and noted the drop. Last year, at this time, a huge 67's fan said he expected him to move up to top 5 range.

Even if Karlsson and Ceci were both signed for 10-15-year contracts, it would be pretty ridiculous to suggest that they're "set" in terms of puck-moving defencemen for the next 10-15 years. And even then, how set were the Islanders for a goaltender when they signed DiPietro to that ridiculous contract? Not to mention that Ceci isn't exactly a proven commodity... personally, I expect a lot more from a 2nd pairing puck-mover than a scoring pace of 22pts. This isn't to say that I'm disappointed in Ceci's play... just that it would be nice to see at least one significantly productive season before handing over the next 10-15 years of 2nd line puck distribution.

As for Claesson, I don't understand some people's infatuation with him. So they've got these major plans for him, in spite of having open interest in retaining Methot long-term, open determination to establish Cowen as a top-4 defenceman, open willingness to give big minutes to Phillips, and openly signing players like Borowiecki and Wiercioch to multi-year extensions as LH d-men? That math just doesn't add up for me... especially if you're suggesting that it will be a few years before Claesson gets a shot at that role. Personally, I think Englund and Wikstrand are just as likely to be playing in the NHL in a couple years' time, and I'm not sure that any of them are necessarily even 2nd pairing-quality players.
