Ty. WGR, ESPN and one other made mention of his deal and cap. I wasn't sure what one had to do with the other. - nfph
are you surprised that gr made the connection?...or espn for that matter? |

I'm not as smug about football as I am hockey. Someone lays down some misinformation and I treat it as plausible. |

Eh, lots of tumult the past few months been keeping me away. But overall, I'm doing alright. Decided to get a single seat for tomorrow's game... want to be able to give Dom a standing ovation as his number goes up between Patty La and what I assume will someday be Alex Mogilny.
(fun fact, there's a 2-banner gap between LaFontaine and Gare this year in the rafters). |

His tenure with the Sabres was momentous, both for the team and for the league overall... hell, even in the scope of geopolitical events. The only catch is he'd have to fly, which Mogilny is famously shy about. |

Afraid to fly my ass, he owed to much money for gambling so he was told to be "afraid to fly" by " certain people " you didn't know that story? |

It really is embarassing. There should be two numbers up there: 11 and 39.

Aside from Miller the only one with a shot is Lindy.
TBH, if I was being really selective about it (and there's a case to be made you should be), Dom should be the 4th banner after the French Connection.
Gare was a fine player and all but not franchise defining.
Horton played all of 124 games for us.
Patty is my personal favorite Sabre (never actually saw the FC play) but also had a short career with us.
None of those three would be looking down on the Bell Centre. |

He had a gambling problem while with the Sabres and owed to much money to " certain orgaizations " and he was told to miss cetain games, so that's where the afraid to fly comes in. He was over it fast when he got traded to the Nuks. That's what I was told a while back, he's my favorite player. I thought most knew that story. |

agreed... Miller eventually and a case can be made for Lindy but i am not sure he wins the case.. His playing nor coaching career with the Sabres were not rafter worthy. but you put them together and the number of years with the organization you give it thought. |

Knew he had plane issues, guess I assumed it was the kgb, opposed to the less official mob. |

It's like the hall of fame arguement: you should have all-time players up there, not very good players. Some of those players are hall of famers but they spent only a part of their time with the Sabres. No need to put them up there. By that logic you could add Turgeon to the list. Where does it end? I don't know what makes us look more small-time: hanging our President's trophy banner or including a list of "nice" players. You don't see "nice" players get their numbers in the rafters in successful organizations. |
