Better than the .001% chance at winning the cup, should they even make playoffs. - WarriorHockey21

Technically they have not. But they have pulled up in to the driveway and are now yelling at son #2 because its raining and for some reason he took off his shoes without untying his shoelaces and now they are a massive knot that have to be untangled so he can get them back on his feet.
Grandma is standing on the front porch waving at them. They are a five foot walk up the steps and they will have arrived. - MBFlyerfan
That's my son's go to move. |

top 5, sure. no way in hell the flyers land the top spot even with an 8.5% chance.
you know i'm right. |

That's the reason I didn't want Emery back. Not that I don't like him, but if your starter goes down, Emery isn't physically capable of handling the lions share of the workload. It's really a moot point now. Let Zepp play some games. I have no problem with that at all.
And I would sit Mason at least 3 weeks, if not longer. They are going to be at least double digit points out of the # 8 seed, with other teams having games in hand. This season is toast. - PLindbergh31
Better start selling soon before 8 teams try to blow up at once and over saturate the market. |

Like the 12-13 Flyers before Mason arrived.

One of the wildest season to season swings in team goaltending I've seen in awhile:
2013-14, ES SV%
Kuemper .932
Harding .940
Backstrom .910
Bryzgalov .930
Curry .975
2014-15, ES SV%
Kuemper .906
Backstrom .894
Curry .842

I hate to admit you may be right but isn't this team long overdue for some luck!

I would be cynical of them landing the top pick if they had a 99% chance to get it. |

there was a THN piece the other day suggesting brodeur might move on to MN.

With the ASB he could miss 6 games and not play again till the 27th. |

Very good point. - PLindbergh31
That's actually an excellent point. I think you can look as close as this past season with Lecavalier. They almost had a few teams on the hook for him, but there was better and cheaper options available out there, so now the Flyers had to keep him.
I could see them being late to the party again this season.. wait until it's saturated, and then either get ripped off, or just complain the market sucks.

On the other side of that coin, that's why I'm not dying for them to finish last overall. Last place only has (about) twice as much a chance of landing the first overall pick as fourth to last. As long as they're in that range, they have a decent shot at The Chosen One.
And even if they don't get him, they're going to land a solid pick regardless. |

poop, might as well.
They're a pretty good team outside of the crease -- one of the best teams at getting pucks on net, and about league-average in shot attempts against and shooting %.
With just a slight uptick in SV%, they'd be winning a lot more of these games. |

What was the stretch they ran off 2 years ago once they were eliminated?
They had Manning and Lauridsen in there as regulars and they ended up with the 11th pick. I thought they were in the top 6 or so before they got hot. I could be wrong. - PLindbergh31
I don't remember the stretch but they were slotted to pick #5 before the hot streak. Blame Mason...
At this point any injury to a core player should be treated similar to a concussion. There's really no point to take a long term risk on anyone for a 1.8% chance to be a first round exit in the playoffs. |

Yep. Two ways to look at it. The market can become saturated by teams becoming sellers at once, or you can wait to the deadline when contending teams get injuries/determine what their needs are and a team could benefit and get a better return by having multiple teams bidding. |

If I was the Wild, I'd be calling Buffalo, St Louis & Carolina looking for a goalie. Even league average tending gets them in the mix |

If they would have selected Morrissey it wouldn't have been an issue.
Somehow this post will be misconstrued into saying Morin is a bust. |

Another aspect is injuries to the pieces the Flyers could concievably move. If Schultz blows out his knee next week, he's got no trade value.
Saying they should make winning as much as they can now, over development and gaining assets is just odd to me. That kind of short sighted mentality is part of the reason why they're a mess now |

It's still too early I have a hard time picking on a 19 yoa. I like the mix of D prospects, and I like the thought of a mean nasty Dman on the back end even if he's not in the mold of a Doughty, OEL, etc. Now Vinny, RJ, Coburn, Read, Grossman it's open season. |
