Yes because Hinke has done such a terrible job of drafting and acquiring assets

When will they be a 45-50 win team? 2026?

i should pny up and get XM...Is content unique or is it rehash of the canadian market shows?
- PhillaBully

Their game broadcasts are from local/national broadcasts, but I'm p sure at least most of their programming is original.

Monday #Flyers column: Steve Mason's latest injury is Ron Hextall's fault -

As a rule of thumb (as with Mr. PLind and distrusting the Flyers medical staff), I tend to doubt any opinion Seravalli finds worthy of publishing.

Considering they've broken 45 wins twice since the turn of the millennium (both over ten years ago), I don't think they would've been better off without tanking.

We all can apply our amateur medical opinion to the situation. The Flyers employ a professional team of U of PA doctors, so I'm sure they checked him out. What happened in the last game was far different then soreness or pain, and was an obvious injury that came on suddenly as he made that save. At least that's my amateur diagnosis of what happened.

That "professional" team diagnosed Lecavalier's fractured back, as spasms...

I guess the difference between the lesser (imho) NHL Network Radio programs and other sports talk is at least on NHLN they give a care about hockey, even if I don't like the program.

I always got the sense 97.5 and 94.1 that talking about hockey is just an obligation they just "want to do and get it over with", like visiting a bad in-law or something.

- BulliesPhan87

Yeah, the oh crap we have to give the Flyers 15 minutes today...

I think they're shooting for 16-17. Realistically, id say 17-18. 50 wins in the east would be a top 3 team. I think they can make the playoffs in 16-17 if they use FA to make some additions.

I can't wait for you to eat crow on this. You, Eskin and Stephen A will sit at the round table enjoying raw crow.

Yeah, it's also an injury that troubled Mason during the Washington game, forced him to leave a practice for a MRI and then leave the Boston game for a two week vacation...but it came on suddenly

Nah. I could care less about the Sixers really. And judging by the attendance at the games, that is the feeling from the fans as well. I'm a casual observer of the NBA. I know the Eastern Conf. is dogpoop. A team like Atlanta is the # 1 seed?

Yup. I'm not blaming Hextall as Seravalli suggests, but the signs were basically biting the Flyers brass in the face and it seems they ignored it.

His insistence that the knee and back injuries are related and due to overuse, despite them happening weeks apart and Mason playing less than several other NHL starters, shows Seravalli is a poop-stirrer, not a journalist.

Throw in some wild speculation about groin muscles being ripped from the bone and you have an article worthy of scorn.

- Feanor

not really, when one part of your body is injured you start compensating with others then a downward spiral can happen

This Sixers team is more enjoyable to watch than this Flyers team. They actually give a poop.

I haven't watched them play a game. Pretty sad if this is the case.

I know Mason, Giroux, and Voracek care. They've all been great.

He's stirring the pot a bit, for sure. That's the Philly media.

But I agree with him that since his return from injury, the Flyers have overused Mason. I think it's a very valid criticism, and not really in hindsight, either.

Mason gets hurt, misses a week, comes back plays in six straight games, during which time the team had one day off. He left practice at least once after tweaking an injury, and admits he was bothered by an injury in a game. Yet, in the 7th game, he's back out there and ends up getting hurt and missing time.

If my meal ticket is leaving practices & saying he tweaked an injury in games, I'm reducing his workload.

- Jsaquella

It was unfortunate he had to play against NJ (I would have just left Emery in), but other than those extra 40 minutes his workload was not close to being overuse. He missed 10 days with a back injury, recovered, and then was playing himself back into form by playing every two days.

I find the assumption that his knee injury against Ottawa was because of overuse or due to the back injury suffered 18 days previously to be unjustified.

Simmonds is in that group IMO. As for the rest I hope Hextall is listening to everything and also making some proposals himself.

I heard Therien and Jackson say during the telecast Saturday the Schultz has been the teams best defenseman, I think Streit has been, but an argument can be made for Schultz. I think the expectations for Schultz coming out of training camp were zero. He's exceeded them exponentially. He's been pretty good.

That being said, the rest of the defense core has been so bad outside of Streit and Schultz, it's basically like being the tallest midget.

Yeah, at the game I wasn't even surprised he had to leave. Both Berube and the medical staff dropped the ball on this one. Sure the MRI was negative but SO WHAT. You dont play a game 7 games in a row (or whatever it was) after coming back from missing 4 games with back spasms, which by the way, where severe enough that he had to be helped off the ice.
