All Star Bob - 2.88 GAA - .914 save %
Mason - 2.46 GAA - .920 save %
Mason has better numbers than Rask, Hiller, Miller, Pavelec, Niemi to just name a few. But the Flyers need goaltending. - nastyflyergirl
he (frank)ing sucks. just like bob. |

Read and Coburn are really the only two guys I'd call major disappointments. The rest have more or less played as I expected them to play - Jsaquella
Trade both and Brayden. I'm not against getting rid of Luke either. People need to realize there are a lot of very mediocre guys on this team.
I don't want to pay Coburn, too expensive. Cheaper to resign Schultz if bringing back anyone. People talk about Umberger being bad; has Read been much better, if at all?
I'm under the belief you only need 1 of Luke and Grossman. Brayden Schenn is very inconsistent to me, and I'd be willing to part with him in the right deal. I'll part with any of the aforementioned in the right deal. The list of untouchables should be very obvious and very small. |

I get all that. I totally understand it, too. Here's the issue.
They are not making the playoffs. This isn't new. Since the end of November it's been increasingly unlikely that they'd be a playoff team. Even before the recent stretch of games, where Mason's knee became an issue, they were basically in need of a miracle to make the playoffs.
That's why I mentioned balancing long term needs against short term realities. It's a little late to worry about wins & the playoffs. It's time to evaluate and sell pieces off. If a guy is hurt, and it's a mild nagging issue, give him the game off. Why risk making it worse? - Jsaquella
I don't disagree with you at all. This organization cannot afford to have anything happen to Mason. If I am management I err on the side of caution for sure. I am just saying that is probably what is going through Berube's head.
I would also ride Zepp a bit to see how he responds. Maybe he is a cheap alternate plan to Emery or another backup moving forward. |

perhaps its because they see the season slipping away playoff wise and need wins just about every night and seeing how Emery has looked, they keep running their best chance to win out there. I mean, they call Zepp up and he gets the start over Emery tonight tells you they don't feel as tho Emery gives them a good chance to win anymore. - nastyflyergirl
or that emery looked kind of like ass in his last game, and zepp had a great weekend. that could be all there is.
but probably not. |

you could add Coburn, he has just been having an awful season
Amac, Coburn, Luke (at times) and Read have all been pretty major disappointments this season. At times they look fine, but their gaffs really have been more consistent then their good moments. - Marc D

Coburn is much more valuable to a guaranteed playoff team than Read. LA or Montreal could really use a guy like him to upgrade their second pairing, and that could be how we get another 1st this year. |

Yeah, it's also an injury that troubled Mason during the Washington game, forced him to leave a practice for a MRI and then leave the Boston game for a two week vacation...but it came on suddenly - Jsaquella
That it's the same thing is speculation. The player was checked out previously, given MRI's all negative. If there was an injury there, they would've diagnosed it and sat him out. He was having an issue with his back previously. He was cleared medically and healthy enough to start the game, went down to make a save, and couldn't get up. He looked fine before making that save. |

This team won't go on a 10 game winning streak, hell winning 2 in a row is an achievement for this bunch. |

Yeah, at the game I wasn't even surprised he had to leave. Both Berube and the medical staff dropped the ball on this one. Sure the MRI was negative but SO WHAT. You dont play a game 7 games in a row (or whatever it was) after coming back from missing 4 games with back spasms, which by the way, where severe enough that he had to be helped off the ice. - MBFlyerfan
If all the medical tests come up negative, and the players says he is fine and ready to go, why not put him in the lineup? As a coach, you are told what players are available to you to put in the lineup. |

Might as well see if he can be a good back up. If he can, maybe Emery gets you a 4th or 5th rounder for a team looking for goalie depth. - Jsaquella
I really like the call to start Zepp. We've bee horrible vs T Bay forever and Emery's lateral movement gets exposed vs them.. .. might as well mix it up |

This isn't even remotely the case. MRI's are not infallible. |

Yeah, because no player with a minor injury has ever lied and withheld anything from his coach or team. Nope, never happened ever.

That they aren't making the playoffs may be the fans stance at this point, but it's not the Flyers, nor should it be. They should be approaching the season and every game the same way as if they were inside the playoffs at this point. The Flyers have not arrived at that point yet. |

Nothing is infallible in the medical world. The Flyers did their due diligence in getting the player checked out. If there was structural damage, the MRI would've shown it. I'm pretty sure they had him checked out by one of the numerous team orthopedists and doctors. If all medical tests and examinations came up negative, and the feedback from the player is that he's ready to go, then I don't have a problem with how the Flyers handled it. He got hurt in a game, it happens. |
