Thought it was 25 games, but think that is just rookie status in NHL

I'm not sure that's right either. The 40 game rule, if I've got it right, applies to years of service for free agency purposes.

I think the ELC begins once signed and one of the few exceptions (only?) is the slide rule which is 9 games or less and sent back to jr.

Komagod burnt an ELC year by skating in the KHL and was going to be a UFA last summer. I think this year was going to be an ELC year for Alicia Silverstone no matter what. I don't think you can 'hide' guys in professional leagues anymore.
