I'll just say what everyone is thinking, but none of you pukes actually have the courage to declare:

We need Nylander's scoring touch on the big club.

What do you mean? He's great after he lets in one of the first 4 shots.

Watched Game in 6, saw the stats, heard the post-game, read the post-games...

Looking a helluva lot better last 3 games, despite the scoreboard.

Can they keep it up? Is it going to be enough?

Did you watch the goal? Had Phaneuf taking up half the crease, no chance in the slightest to make that save.

1st Period: "Nylander takes the puck and skates up the ice, Doughty breathes on him and he crashes into the boards."

2nd Period: "We have just received word that Nylander has been taken for emergency medical care, updates as they come."

3rd Period: "from his hospital bed Nylander has retired due to his shattered pelvis."

Just hoping for some news so we can stop talking about Nylander already.

Not a bad game last night. Like that tight style, personally. They will win more games than they lose playing that way.

I agree. They went toe-to-toe with the champs. Barring that brutal opening goal, they could easily have come away with a point in that game.

They were Rocky vs Apollo in Rocky II

So we are winning/better at Corsi and the game was unwatchable, boring as hell. Looked like New Jersey playing itself circa 2003. Brutal hockey, with this style of hockey the Leafs only chance to win is if the other goalie is awful every night..

I'll agree to disagree. I didn't think it was unwatchable whatsoever

it's about balance, right? the Leafs committing to defence was always going to affect their offence, which is what you're seeing. seems like they've played some really tight defence last 3 games but with that, scoring has dried up outside of that first period explosion against Columbus. the Leafs goal totals were never about being that good offensively. it was attributable to their style of play. but assuming they keep up this defence first mentality, with their goaltending they should score enough to get their share of wins, especially if their PP continues to click. defence-first is a winning mentality... it's a good start for the Leafs.

i look at it as a transitional phase.

you play this style or you sit.

ingrain defense into these guys heads whatever way you can, then let them loose offensively once the defense side of the game becomes second nature.

at least.. i hope this is whats happening lol

morning LM

That game was terrible to watch, there was about 5 good scoring chances for both teams combined. Again, only way they are going to win playing like this is if the other goalie stinks and ours pitches a shutout or one goal against.

Defense > Offense

How long have we listened to people harp on the team's defensive shortcomings? AD NAUSEUM for the last 2 years.

They finally tighten up and we still complain? Whatevs.

I liked the game, and would prefer they continue to play that way

I think they'll fair well against eastern teams if they continue playing like that.

I'm just glad the change was made at the midway point instead of the end of February where we have a mad scramble of 3 weeks to try to get in the playoffs. Then they miss, but wait! There's hope because they had a nice run at the end.

Seen that song and dance a time or two too many. Least there's ~35 games to lock up a bunch of points here.

I dont know about you guys, but I certainly didnt mind that loss. Kypreos can go fly a kite about his comments...I'd rather see that type of hockey. They keep this up and things will start to bounce in their favour.

its been 3 games and they have been tightening up more each one.

we all know leafs can play a run and gun system and score goals; thats a given.

grind into their system the D part of the game and eventually they will find what works for them and start scoring some goals but at the same time playing a good 200ft game, thats what its all about.

Cant disagree more Lou. They need to accustom themselves of this style, and when they do, they'll find the back of the net while not giving up 54 shots against and allowing 3-10 goals scored. Just need to find that happy medium.
