I agree, I was pointing out that we have seen this top six for a few seasons, they can't grind out goals consistently, it was always off the rush which is going to suffer playing this way.

Out of the top six, Kadri can play gritty and adapt to this style, imo.

I thought JVR-Kad-Pan looked pretty good last night going toe-to-toe with the Kopitar line most of the night.

Panik is getting a good look now, RFA to be, I think they like what they see from him, he is starting to battle out there, I like it.

Edit: But is he a top six?

I think losing Holland has really hurt, he was right on the brink of becoming a good player.

If you guys don't resign him I'd take him off your hands in a heartbeat.

Franson, Kadri, Bernier, Winnik and Santorelli to sign or not, Panik being an RFA and not much playing time previously might be the easiest to sign.

if nonis had 2 free buyouts he'd likely use them on JVR and Polak

I think this new 'system' will help a guy like Holland. I'm not ready to hand him a top 6 role yet but a solid top 9 guy with potential to move up.

Despite the fact that we got physically dominated by LA that was a good game by the boys last night. If we could have capitalized on one of our PP's we could have got a point... also, it would be nice if our top line would get there heads out of their bums on the opening shift of the game... frank... and they almost let another in in the first shift of the 2nd period!

Hopefully Leo will be back soon. Looked like he screwed his shoulder up...

One thing is for sure about LA. They hit first and look for the puck later...

JVR-Kadri-santo the top line now?

The Washington game was a bit of an anomaly though, so many weird bounces and tips. I think that when it averages out over 20 games or more then we'll be fine.

What I do like is having two options on the breakout, they have the winger stay high on the point and the centre comes underneath the coverage up the middle.

over the long haul the leafs will come out better if they can keep the shots at 30 or under.

leafs have 7 goals on 84 shots or 8.33 sh% ...which is about NHL avg.
Its the sh% against that is not sustainable...

small steps...but did anyone think this group of players was capable of playing 3 games in a row and avg 22 shots?

I wonder if it's already a fait au complete, at the end of the year. If we miss the playoffs, Nonis is gone and Mark Hunter takes his place. If we replace Horachek, maybe his brother Dale gets hired as the next coach. It was a curious signing, to hire Mark Hunter. It's like a dark veil of secrecy fell on the whereabouts of Mark Hunter, in the organization. Makes me wonder if he's concentrating on the next draft, knowing that it's his job for the taking, this spring.

He's the same age as Kadri and was a first rounder that year. We know how long that it's taking for Kadri to round out his game. I think Holland will be fine, because he's a big body in the middle. We just need to disassemble the Kessel line and trade them for bigger bodies that can play this style of game. JVR is the only one that I would keep of of that line, letting Kessel and Bozak go, at the trade deadline.

Oh gawd...

Yes that's it. A dark veil of secrecy is the reason we don't hear anything about what one of the Leafs CHL scouts does every day.

Hell no. Especially as those three teams collectively average around 29.4 shots/game. Who said that changing the coach would have zero effect?

It makes sense, considering Mark Hunter was hired and there was no definition on what his duties where to be. It's almost like he's watching our core players and will be the one that might make the decisions on them ultimately. Probably keeping a low profile and not entering into any relationships with the current players, because he knows that he'll be moving them, in the off season. The Hunters are probably the most successful owners of any CHL franchise in Canada. Their teams are always near the top and they've been able to develop top end talent for the NHL.

Mark Hunter was hired as director of player personnel but is not listed on the Leafs site, I think you see him moved to director of pro and amateur scouting before or right after the upcoming draft.

As long as Horachek keeps rolling lines that are solid defensively (screw offensive chemistry for now), they will eventually develop offensive chemistry.
