It was a bad trade, but at the time, at least there was the justfication that we needed defense. We were coming off of a season where our offense was one of the best in the league, played largely without JVR due to multiple injuries. The Eminger trade was terrible in all ways and shapes. - jmatchett383
I like Luke Schenn but I didn't understand the deal at the time. We just picked up Grossmann at the deadline and JvR's potential was clear. I understood the Lecavalier signing better then I understood this deal. Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier were coming off two poor second seasons at the faceoff dot and overall play. Both Adam Hall and Vincent Lecavalier were brought in to be stronger down the middle and win that season. We should have stated the course with Laviolette, which in my opinion another reason why last season never reached expectations. |

Good thing with coburn being hurt is maybe teams will forget just how bad he's played this year. I'll take 2 2nds at this point |

That would be a bad deal for the Flyers in my opinion. They better get a minimum of a first round pick back, or it's better just to keep Coburn. |

You would think after his foot was broken in game 1 blocking a shot, that he would have put skate guards on. |

JvR was streaky as hell back then, and not a very competitive player without the puck (he's still not, lol).
With that said, I really doubt they would have looked to move him if he had been signed to a cheaper bridge deal a la Coots/Schenn, instead of that ill-timed monster 2nd-contract.
Matt Read's emergence out of left field probably played into it somewhat, as well.

I agree, it's becoming pretty clear that Lavi wasn't the problem around here. |

They should still be able to get a low 1st I'd think, he's got a long enough resume where he is a commodity even in a down year |

He is a commodity, and one that the Flyers shouldn't be in a rush to give away. If a team wants to pay a premium for him, then I'd think about it. Otherwise, I'd keep him in the fold. |

He's shown some signs of coming around. Hopefully he has a good 2nd half. |

I kind of get what they were trying to do with the JVR for Schenn deal. Bringing in a young defender was a good idea. Its just a shame that that defender was a young stay at home type rather than a puck mover. Its the type of defenseman they got is what bothered me.
I had issues with Lavi being stubborn at times and even felt that his time here was up. But this has been a case of not knowing what we had until it was gone. |

Lol. My sister went to OSU. I would probably root (cheer) for them if she took any interest in the games.
That being said, OSU is a fun school and Columbus isn't a bad city. Gamedays are (frank)ing insane though. You won't find a sober person on campus for the 24 hours starting at about 10am on Saturday morning to 10am Sunday morning.
They also have this weird thing where homeless people will cleanup the campus Saturday night and early sunday morning. People just throw their bottles and cans on the ground and it's like a feeding frenzy for the homeless to turn them in for $0.15 each. - PhillySportsGuy
Did find it funny they have a Michigan Avenue near the stadium I believe |

Coburn is a big guy who skates very well. He's inconsistent in his own end, and he brings very little offense to the table. Not sure he's going to bring the Flyers back a first round pick. He is under contract next year and he's carrying a fairly modest cap hit. |

Firing Laviolette was the right move. He got fired not because he was a bad coach, but because he was the wrong coach for the team. They couldn't play his style of play, and be successful at it. Laviolette wouldn't change, and I don't blame him to an extent. He's been a sucessful coach playing his systems and style. |

I think his play is one of the reasons the third line has been providing some offense lately. He's been able to hold the puck.
Throughout the season, one of his biggest problems has been how weak he is on the puck.
Hopefully, it's a sign of things to come. Flyers have too many players making decent money, but not delivering. They need him to be Matt Read again. |

Totally agree. When Read and that line is playing well, the Flyers are a completely different team. The horrible first half that Read had, along with Umberger also struggling, is one of the biggest reasons the Flyers find themselves where they are in the standings. |

Looking forward to seeing what this D unit minus grossman and coburn can do. - Just5
Those two were holding everybody else back. Same with Mason.
Playoffs are a lock now. |

It's no coincidence that the Flyers play better when Mason is hurt. He is clearly the biggest problem on this team. Strangely enough, he's played really well this season, so there's only one possible conclusion to draw.
Steve Mason is cursed. |

well obviously the flyers are cursed, but Mason's boosting our curse levels far beyond sustainable parameters. It's pretty much definitely his fault we're missing the playoffs. |

It's a well known fact Mason was in the stands trying to get Leighton's attention when Kane scored the Stanley Cup-winning goal.

That's why Zepp said get on my back, I'm carrying this team into the post-season, especially since Coburn and Grossmann aren't out there (frank)ing things up.
It's a Zepplock - guaranteed fresh. |
