Great night all-around! Am I to believe we can actually 'hang' with the league's elite teams?
Kudos to Razer being a true professional...
Guaranteed he was pissed to not get the start (something would be wrong if he wasn't), but he understands his role and he just wants his teammates to succeed. Great team guy!!! |

1) The writer has no idea if Carlson was the top available name on the Flyers' draft list at that point. Not that they absolutely would not have picked another D in the first round, but the Flyers had already picked Sbisa earlier in the first round. Actually, goalie Chet Pickard -- who turned out be a bust but was the consensus top goalie in the draft among virtually all NHL scouts -- was the guy they wanted but were unable to trade up to get).
2) Hindsight "Team X could have drafted Player Y" stuff is pointless. You can do that for every team in every draft. I wish I could post the full transcript of Jay Greenberg's recent interview with Simon Nolet for the upcoming Flyers 50th Anniversary book. Nolet has been a highly successful scout over a long career and would be the first to tell you -- and says it a half-dozen times in his interview -- that there is a lot of luck needed after the fact to produce a home run of a pick. Even the very best like Nolet have more misses that hits.
everytime I try to figure out Homer I ask Y?
3) The Flyers quickly turned Eminger right around and packaged him with Downie for Matt Carle, who had productive years in Philly prior to his UFA departure. - bmeltzer

If you're going to discuss curse levels, please provide some type of chart with it. A pie chart would be nice, with curse level/60. - MJL

I don't think it's Mason. The Flyers are an inverse-Voracek team.
- In 11/12, he had a fair 18G/49PTS, and the Flyers were a fair team.
- In 12/13, he burst out for a pro-rated 37G/78PTS and the Flyers were bad.
- In 13/14, he was better than 11/12 but worse than 12/13 (23G/62PTS) and the Flyers were better than 12/13 but worse than 11/12.
- This season, he has a pro-rated 32G/99PTS, his best year since joining the team, and the Flyers are on pace for a points% of 0.95, their worst since acquiring him.
To sum up:
11/12 - Voracek's worst year, Flyers' best year
12/13 - Voracek's 2nd-best year, Flyers' 2nd-worst year
13/14 - Voracek's 3rd-best year, Flyers' 3rd-worst year
14/15 - Voracek's best year, Flyers' worst year.
Jake is obviously the problem. I'd demote him to the 4th line ASAP. - jmatchett383
nope can only be the goalie's fault everyone knows this

Even worse than their raw Fen-close (38%)... on the rare occasions they do have the puck, they don't have enough talent to really do much with it.
Flyers are the opposite... thanks G/Jake! - Tomahawk
They are so bad. They're the second worst team points wise and are due for regression. |

I hate those what if articles. Yea what if the Flyers kept their 1st instead of trading for Eminger, What if Homer landed Shea Weber, What if Pronger never got injured, What if Leighton made the save of the Cup winning goal in 2010. It is a stupid game to play, you find a 100 of things to think what if on. There is no point thinking about, past is the past, what was done is done and cant be changed. |

The hope is to move on, but never forget, lest it be repeated again.
(They better not be trading away any top-60 picks for a good long while) |

Flyers currently have 41 points.
Edmonton with 29, Buffalo with 31, Carolina with 31. The top three picks are locked up.
The remaining teams are all fairly close, with Colorado at 44 points, and currently 10th.
Seems Philadelphia will truly be picking in the 5-10 spot this year.
