I mean for Minnesota. If you are trying to win more than you lose Dubnyk is not the answer.

...because the Coyotes aren't one of the worst teams on the NHL??? Sabres and the Oilers might be worse, but that's it. Don't really understand the reasoning on this one.

Wow, I knew they were desperate but this is very unlikely to work out for the Wild. Dubnyk can show brilliance one night and then goes to poop the next and this is not likely to change. If they wanted to make the playoffs they could have had their new number one in Craig Anderson who steals many games on his own. Not sure he was available but the Wild just pissed off a lot of their fans with this move.

By sifting through the garbage bin looking for anything that resmembles a goalie. Don't get your hopes up with Dubnyk, might get a good game or two to start before it all unravels again.

My hopes aren't up. Fletcher isn't afraid to make moves. He's done it all the time. But he's not a fool. The fact that this is the move he did make tells me that he didn't have many reasonable trade offers with other teams. And Dubnyk right now is probably an upgrade which should tell you how bad the Wild goaltending is.

Maybe that's exactly what Fletcher is looking for? A few solid games to get the players' heads on their shoulders again to play the system. When the Wild play the system, they're a fantastic team. That gives rest to Backstrom and Kuemper, and hopefully a mental reset. After a few games off for both, and hopefully the team feeling and playing better, any of the three can slot in and play well-enough.

My observations of the previous 8-10 games show a lot of goals let in not necessarily on weak goaltending, but on defensive lapses and the team not fully playing the system. If they can get moderately close to playing the system, they're a 50-50 team, rather than a 12.5-87.5 team. And once that happens, many of those goals don't go in, even if the goalies let in a few softies.

Or, Fletcher knew he had to do something but didn't want to set the team back a few years by giving up assets and/or higher draft picks for just a shot at making the playoffs.

In all seriousness, though, my buddy called me up after he heard of the trade to ask my opinion. I hadn't read anything as I was busy at work, and when he told me it was Dubnyk I literally laughed, thinking it was a joke.
