You must have been the only NHL fan to miss that free agent signing? He makes quite a bit of coin.

I know, I just don't ever think about it on a per game basis.

Seeing suspensions upsets more not because teams miss players, but because they detail how much money these guys make per game. His $80k would have a drastic impact on my life, but for him it's chump change

Honestly at this point I really don't care anymore, but how does the dept of player safety dole out 2 games for a first offense that was IMO fairly border line or ambiguous to Suter yet 2 months ago Scandella took a clear intentional shot to Oshies head and got off with just a fine?

Whatever, like you said, he needs the rest. My only issue with the ruling is now he's an automatic repeat offender on any further transgressions. Not that there will be any, but I still think it's a bit harsh in comparison to other infractions this season that didn't garner suspension time.

I know, I just worked 26 straight days over the holidays logging 183.5 hours for one pay period(2 weeks) and busted my hump for less than a 10th of what he makes in one game.

Depressing as hell.

Makes no sense, I agree. I thought the play warranted a game, maybe 2, but I also thought he would get off with just a fine due to star status, 1st time offender and Downie back at practice today. Then again, the NHL has been anything but consistent when it comes to discipline.

I know I am a little late on this forum, but I'll add my 2 cents anyway....This Dubnyk trade to me is just whatever. He came cheap. Low risk, possibly a high reward or just more of the same. I really hope this isn't the last transaction though.

For sure. Last night whilst I imbibed my thought was that Suter was merely sticking an elbow out to box Downie out to slow him down from the play. A very, very common play and one that could be repeated a hundred times with a totally different and benign outcome. I re-watched it sober today, and I still 100% feel that way. Suter wasn't even looking at Downie, stick an elbow out, not up, towards an on-coming Downie, but had the misfortune to hit him in the face. I personally don't feel it's worth 2 games, and a fine would have sufficed, but as you pointed out the disciplinarians in this league are on a different level. (anyone remember Bouchard being suspended for the opposing team high-sticking his own teammate?)

That said, a couple games off for Suter is probably a good thing. Of course, I would prefer it had been when our D corps were healthy, but they haven't been at all this season so it's just a repeated track on our season's record. I still remember a few weeks ago against Chicago when Keith (I believe) was out, and that was their first game all season without their top-4 defensemen playing, whereas we had only had 7ish (memory's foggy) games in which we had ours playing together. Again, a repeated track!

If he comes in and performs at the same level he has so far this season, we're suddenly winning games. An 88% save percentage vs. a 91.5% is so crucial for this team. It may seem like only a few more goals here and there, but with how few shots we allow it's pretty significant in our games.

Agree 100%. Nicely stated and yes I Remember the Bouchard incident against Columbus' Matt Calvert.. Only it was Calvert himself that lifted Butchies stick up into his own face as Pierre Marc was taking a hack at him.

At this point he certainly can't do any worse. I think this is pretty much the only move Fletch could have made. I don't like the idea of giving up a pick for a rental in a losing season, but maybe Dubbers does well enough to re-sign as the teams permanent back up.

That's definitely what Fletcher has in mind - the hopes he comes in, performs well, and re-signs him. I have personally never been impressed with Dubnyk's play, but he was also playing for a poor Edmonton team who, in the last 10 years, has not employed any capable defensive play to support him. I do hope so strongly that playing in front of a defensively capable team he is able to perform well and reset the Wild to playing the system again.

The big question is if the team is able to take his first game as the start of something new to regenerate and renew their play. If they leave the same defensive lapses and breakdowns as they have during this stretch, Dubnyk will get lit up just as Backstrom and Kuemper have. Hopefully this is a significant enough push on their backsides to reset and play the system again without worrying about the goaltending. If he doesn't win the first two or three games, we're back at square one and nosediving the remainder of the season.

Frustrating stuff! This is the only team in the only sport I really care about and I ran my mouth in the beginning of the season saying we'd be one of the top teams in the Western conference.

I just wonder where Fletcher's mind will be come the trade deadline if we continue down this path.

Full-out panic mode, and I can't fault him on that. He's put together a very solid roster on paper and we've see what the Wild can do when they play the system well and have even mediocre goaltending and their top 4 dmen.

What he'll do is try to sell Leipold on not firing him and Yeo, and I personally think it'd be a bad move to fire Fletcher at this point. Chock this season up to some terrible luck in our dmen not being able to stay healthy, a goalie tandem that for some reason forgot that stopping the puck is the goal, and a team that, as a result, stopped playing the system to compensate for the goalie and dmen situations.

There's no question in my mind that if we had our d-corps playing healthy throughout the season we'd be in a better position. There's no doubt in my mind that if we had goalies capable of playing the league standard we'd be in a better position. I see that, Fletcher sees that, but it's his job to convince Leipold into seeing it in the same light.

To make a few trades based on this season would be a silly move on his part. To flat-out go into rebuild mode would be a silly move on his part, especially considering what has been brought into this team the past few years. The Wild cannot play for a good draft pick because it would be against the rules, and our team is too good for that to happen. This needs to be a small blip on the team's overall gameplan for the next few years without them deviating from the course. Making any significant moves would hamper that and basically negate all previous transactions since Fletcher took over. And quite honestly, I don't want that to happen. This team is too good whilst playing the system to go on a rebuild. If Fletcher is let go or has any thoughts on a rebuild, our team will take a step back for the next 3+ seasons. If they stay the course and hope for a healthier and better season next year, there should be no reason they don't make the playoffs. At this point next year would be the decision to restructure the team and management, but not this year.
