Your facts are off.
- TincupCanuck

care to correct them??

Because Panik playing mostly on the 4th line (in only half a year so far) has scored more than ALL players the Leafs rolled out on the 4th line for the ENTIRE year.

So how is it wrong?

Well we've gone from talking about orr and other goons that are needed, to saying the Leafs need big tough guys like Lucic.

These are miles apart. not even remotely close to the same examples.

I know, but there are similar Lucic's but without the game.

LA
Chi
Boston obviously iced about 5 or 6 at 1 time on their way to the cup.

We are soft, softer than soft. Like 2 grams of blow limp Richard soft.

If your team has the only goon in the league there's nobody on the other time for him to fight. There's only a competent fourth line on the other team to exploit your goon's lack of ability. Goons only fight goons (with apologies to John Scott).

Who's your favourite goon in the NHL right now?

For 6 minutes, i think some sand paper could replace Booth's 1 goal and 1 assist.

PDO

1. Shooting percentage is primarily luck-driven

2. Save percentage is primarily luck-driven

Add #1 and #2, and you get a statistic that is almost 100% luck

Yes, absolutely. That is why everyone regresses to the league mean eventually. There is no such thing as players who perform better than average.

Maybe not from your couch...but the players like it.
- TincupCanuck

Maybe the scrubs. The Canes all raved about getting a goon on the team when Brookbank was first signed.

After about a month they couldn't have been happier to see his useless ass gone.

Why waste a roster spot on a guy who can't play?

Keep Panik on the 4th with the scrapper...replace one of the other two guys. Boom problem solved

Pretty sure Kessel and the goalies would like protection. Burn feels safe sitting on his couch though.
- TincupCanuck

Dude.... The goons have been there in the past and it didn't stop anything.

Enough with the nonsense that goons being on the team stop others from taking liberties. total fallacy.

Exactly.

Goons don't prevent rats. Goons stand there like idiots while rats skate around them.

Most of the 4th line doesnt bring much anyways. Booth out (before injury), Orr in...he seemed to be liked.

Which is the huge flaw in this argument. Case in point: The Leafs have had a PDO of over 1.01 for the past 3 seasons (with a best in the league 1.3 in 2012). If a team is well above average for that long, can it still be called luck or do they maybe have players more capable of burying chances and/or stopping pucks than most teams in general?

Only way you should play to goons is if they actually would grab the offending player who ever it was and beat them and take the suspension.

Panik's not scoring all his points playing the minutes McLaren/Orr got.

He's been moved up and down the lineup.

He has 8 points and has been moved around to other lines a bit, he's also a big fat minus, and minus 7 in his last 5 games, and has one assist in his last 15 games -

Could the Leafs use tougher and meaner players? Hell yes. Does that mean they need Orr and/or MacLaren? Hell no.

It isn't the goons that are the problem it is that the goons don't goon it up anymore.

If you had goons who you would sacrifice to suspension for truly worthwhile cheapshots, like head-shots, knee on knee, or crosschecks to the mouth, then you probably would deter stuff eventually.
