I think the BIGGEST disappointment is by far Cody Hodgson.
That was a terrible signing. - Sabresfan88

Ted Nolan doesn't mesh well with that kind of talent. - buffalofan19
with the exception of his handling of Hasek....
His teams and "that kind of talent he had (aka his top 3 scorers)":
Buffalo 95/96 - a 30 yr old LaFontaine (did score 91 points), Randy Burridge, and Derek Plante...no other future talent on the roster
Buffalo 96/97 - Derek Plante, Brian Holzinger, Donald Audette...no other future talent on the roster
QMJHL 05/06 Moncton Wildcats - top 2 (two no-names), Brad Marchand, Keith Yandle (Andy McDonald was also on the roster)...won the Championship
Islanders 06/07 - Jason Blake, Miroslav Satan, and Mike Sillinger...no other future talent on the roster
Islanders 07/08 - Mike Comrie, a 36 yr old Bill Guerin, and Miroslav Satan...no other future talent on the roster
Latvia - Girgensons, Gudlevskis, annnnnd no one...almost beat team Canada
I could do the same layout for the last year and a half of sabres, but i feel as if most people on this site would understand that this team has been a train wreck for the last year and a half...so IMO its not fair to judge him while he is trying to wrangle cats......
That being said...even if you want to discount the one year he had talent on his team (and won a trophy)...there is no evidence to support the claim that he does not mesh well with McDavid/Eichel, Reinhart, and Girgs kind of talent... |

And his inability to get along with Hasek is well documented. DiPietro had a career year when they made the playoffs. Gudlesvkis almost stole that game for Latvia. People act like Latvia outplayed Canada. That wasn't the case. They should have got murdered. It wasn't some "inspiration from a coach". It was a goaltender playing the game of his life. And that's the story of Ted Nolan's career. When his goaltending is stellar, not just good, but stellar, he wins some games. When his goaltending is anything below great, he wins very little. |

My point still stands. We've never seen him....in his entire coaching career...equipped with REAL talent...so we can't judge exactly how he meshes with real talent
EDIT: if we get McDavid...and Nolan goes 1-10 in the first 11 games of the season with Reinhart and McDavid in the lineup...we will get our answer...until then no one can be sure |

yeah. me too. Im trying to figure out now if I should buy a southwest ticket before the finals and cancel it if they lose or just buy one the day they win it all and pay through the nose.
If they ever win the cup with teddy, im going to need to be at that parade and will probably need a new liver afterwords.
I suppose I got a few years to figure it out. - seedy
Regardless of who is coaching, who is on the roster, etc - I've already got a standing notice to the ol' lady that I WILL be in Buffalo for that parade |

Yea it's all just disheartening to me to see Teddy just being fed to the wolves.
It's no secret that I like the guy as a man , not a hockey coach but as the excellent Father he is and human being.
I have only had a few conversations with Teddy personally but I know a genuine human being when I hear and see them. - BuffaloHardHat
Please don't confuse anyone's criticism of Nolan as a knock against the man personally, hardhat. Those who complain about him are complaining about what they think he is as a coach, not a husband, father, etc.
I've enjoyed your posting tonight, lots of well thought out stuff. I'm not a big fan of Nolan, but I agree with you when you say it's tough to judge him on this return stint to Buffalo. This team has 2 quality forwards (Ennis and Girgensons), a guy who needs stellar linemates (Moulson), and a bunch of poop rounding out the rest of the lineup (in the way of true talent). To fault Nolan heavily and say he could never do well with a good roster is warrantless - as feetontheair has pointed out. |

My thoughts on Nolan: (A) he's lost this locker room, so he's done; (B) should we wonder whether there is a reason no GM of a genuinely talented team has ever hired Ted as head coach? |

IMO i think he got the same leash TM asked for: 2 drafts (Nolan will get only a handful of games to prove he belongs)
And as far as "B" goes...yes..we should wonder *ominous music* lol |

They offered him a 3 year deal, he was there choice. If he didn't take it they would have went in another direction, Murray said he doesn't want anyone that doesn't want to be here he won't beg anyone. |
