I can stand the losing and I absolutely want more of it.
What I cant stand is all of the people who turn down free tickets wont come to games cause they suck and when they do become a good team will automatically become die hard fans who loved them all along. For me the 2 people who dropped out of splitting season guess what in two years and you want back in hit the bricks - hubie
Buying tickets or going to the games doesn't make you a better fan.

so in your book its ok to only go to games and support the team when they are winning. So you think its ok to be a fair weather fan? |

A little pain now should lead to years of joy . Don't understand why so many reject that concept.

Because those years of joy aren't exactly guaranteed. |

I disagree to a point. Keeping your season tickets and showing your loyalty during these hard times says something IMO. Maybe it's because I'm a season ticket holder that I feel that way. I expected them to not be so good. But this is absolutely brutal and completely embarassing at this point.
Yes, I want McDavid. But I still go to games in hopes that they win. I just don't get upset when they lose right now. I wasn't mad they lost last night, but I don't think it's inappropriate of me to ask for them to look even slightly competitive either. |

They wrecked the franchise and are paying for that. I am in no way obligated to go to the games to watch a terrible product. |

No, they are in a competition. They could have scored three goals in the last minute and they wouldn't have won (more important) and they wouldn't have "entertained". In that sense it wouldn't have meant anything. |

I don't really agree and I could actually argue the other way. When a franchise screws up this badly they deserve to feel some financial pain. Too many franchises are spoiled because their fans will show up no matter what. |

You're right. You're not olbigated to go to the games to watch a horrible product. You are entirely free to engage in this kind of cost/benefit analysis. In fact, it is extraordinarily practical.
But you have to admit, for whatever it's worth, "practical" is the exact opposite of " fanatical."

Did you enjoy the status the the team the last 10 years? Do you enjoy being an average team? Having really no shot at winning the cup?
you are not obligated to go you are correct. But when they are good dont go saying how youve been behind them all this time. |

What is guaranteed is valiant runs to ninth if we do not try this . Seen too many of those . Willing to try something else. Not like this has not worked for other franchises. I know , I know has not worked in Edmonton . Their problems are much larger than just talent on the ice. |

You're making this about finances and it has nothing to do with that. It has to do with being a fan of a team.
It's easy for someone like you who doesn't have season tickets to say "I'm just not going to go to any games."
As a season ticket holder, I'm willing to stick with this because they have a good plan in place. The good is going to come, it's just a matter of being patient. If I give up to my tickets now in order to "punish the team for being bad" then I'm only punishing myself when they're good and I can't get tickets because there's a waiting list. |

Even when I lived in Buffalo, I barely went to games (I'm sure I've been to less than 20 games in my life). Does that mean I'm less of a fan or haven't "been behind them all this time"? |

I don't think practical is the right word. Maybe pragmatic? When something stops being fun I stop doing it. Hell, I watch the games on fast forward and I want to hang myself. I can't fathom why these "fantaticals" want to sit through these games. Life is too short.
For what it is worth I am a long-time minipack holder. |

I am all in with the plan and have been since the beginning. I am not trying to punish them in any way by not going. I just won't waste several nights a year watching this trash. That doesn't make me less of a fan. |

Are we really questioning fan dedication today. If you're here. If the game is on your tv. If you're reading about them, blogging about them, whining about them on FB and twitter, following them in any fashion. You're a fan. All this "oh well you're not a season ticket holder" bullpoop is getting really (frank)ing old and annoying. |

Because being a fan means sticking with the team through the good and bad. It sounds like you're very bitter and don't care, so why don't you just fall the rest of the way off the wagon and save the rest of the aggrevation of having to explain why we're tolerating it? |

While you are absolutely correct Mr Kaiser, If every "fan" and or person within the Sabres market took a logical approach, the team would have little or no support and fold, regardless of wins and losses. |
