(you know Mueller and Turris left over money, right?)
- Tomahawk
Zero to do with the fact that neither player turned out to be worthy of where they were selected. A team is not going to build a contender drafting Mueller, Boedker, and Turris with top 10 picks. |

When looking at the impact of having high draft picks on a team, excluding teams that haven't drafted well defeats the purpose. The teams that haven't drafted well make the point that just having the picks doesn't guarantee anything. How strong of a hockey market a team is in, has nothing to do with drafting well. - MJL

I would emphatically disagree that the Flyers locker room is full of apathy. I don't believe that to be the case. - MJL
I hope you're right! I'm way up in Northern Ontario and only get highlights and etc.. to keep tabs on the team. The only reason I feel that way is just looking at the 'on-ice' product as I don't get to see interviews, or prakkys. I've mentioned before that the few times I've seen them play they go through incredibly long bouts of what I view as 'passionless' hockey which involves a lack of speed, physicality, determination and ON ICE comaraderie that sees one line-mate sticking up for another in scrums (there aren't that many scrums to speak of which indicates to me that as soon as the whistle goes, the line 'punches out' the same way a tyke team races to the bench for water when the 'subsitution buzzer' rings).
I could be wrong. I usually am, and this wouldn't be the first time. I hope I'm wrong and that those guys do care. But spouting off the appropriate cliche about 'being here before' and 'having faith in the guys in the room' doesn't necessarily cut it for me. I wish it did - I wouldn't be as frustrated. Because I see a lesser 'on-ice' product than what I saw last year and because really, not too much has changed (save for Umberger and Hartnell), in my search for a reason, the only thing I can come up with is that the boys have become accustomed to not winning and I don't want Kimmo coming back to that.
If you could share with me the things that you cling to, that fill you with hope for this team, I would be greatful, MJL.
I love reading what you guys have to say here and I enjoy your responses MJL...I log in here not looking for an arguement - just a place to vent because in my town of 5000, the flyers' support group is way too small. |

That is changing the conversation. The point isn't that having top 5 picks can't or won't help a team get to the top of the heap. The point is that having the top picks isn't a guarantee. Phoenix has had a number of high picks in the recent past. And the Turris pick reinforces my point.
3 years in a row, Phoenix had the 8th, 3rd, and then 8th again overall pick. They drafted Peter Mueller, Kyle Turris, and Mikkel Boedker. They aren't remotely close to being a top team.
Phoenix's draft record is poor overall. - MJL
Yotes should have bern worse to pick higher than 8th |

For this year, I don't have a lot of hope. They aren't a good team for a variety of reasons. I just don't think they aren't a good team because they don't care. |
