Not sure the kid sticks it here long term. The search for consistency will be key but he better find another way to contribute when he isn't getting points. When he isn't doing so, he's just a warm body. - flyer_nutter
He might not, but the situation is, right now, that he's on the team and his next contract will likely see him in the $4mm cap hit range. Obviously that can change, via trade or other situation, but right now, it's the path they seem to be on.

Coburn's 6-5, 220, can skate and makes $4.5 million -- they could move him tomorrow, if he wasn't hurt. His term won't hurt moving him - AllInForFlyers
I think the remaining year he has left will definitely limit the number of teams interested in him.
Hextall mentioned recently that they don't have the UFA's to make a lot of deals at the deadline to paraphrase |

3-4 years ago he was, but he might be the best option, has a UFA status, and the Caps can't afford him. - puckhead17
Well if they get an offer they can't refuse for Streitt at TDL..Then Green would be a guy to target |

No doubt, if he puts up 25/50, he will be getting 4 million. |

I don't think he ever was a true #1 in the way that I look at it. A true #1 is a minutes eater in all situations. While Green is not putting up the same gaudy offensive numbers, he has actually become a better all around defenseman now then he was in the past in my opinion. - MJL
True, he's not known as a defensive stalwart, nor a guy who will eat up big minutes.
But he would be a nice "bridge", player for us, until the kids are ready, he would also make our attack much better.

I'd breathe a bit of a sigh of relief of both Schenn's just (frank)ed off down to Chinatown.

I personally don't see an issue with his skating. Maturing physically and gaining weight, which I'm sure is going to happen, will help. - MJL
His skating/speed is most definitely the weakest part of his game. He's 22, he won't get faster, maybe a bit stronger but he's a bean pole. I don't know if he'll ever become the #2 on a Cup team. I have my doubts |

I don't know about a bridge. He's going to want a long term deal if he reaches free agency.

He's never going to be a speedster, but I don't think his skating is at all an issue. He skates well enough to be an effective 2nd line NHL center in my opinion.

Paul Martin is a UFA, too. He's a solid defenseman, who can be a 2-3, like Coburn but is more offensively inclined. He won't match Streit's scoring, but he's more solid in his own end an capable of some offense.
They could also target players in trade, as well. Maybe a budget team has a guy they can't afford on a bigger salary for a year or two. with the freed up space the Flyers could possibly take on the bigger contract.
There's options out there. Just have to smart. |

Its really hard to say until he gets to consistently play with legit top 6 wingers. Worst case, he's an excellent #3 center. |

Not against that, in fact, if you're going to try to land a good defenseman, it's likely Bryaden Schenn or Couturier is part of the price. |

These guys, like Martin, Boychuk, Ehrhoff and Green, are going to get long term deals. They will all be overpaid. Every team in the league is looking for puck moving defenseman. |

The Pens will likely re-sign Martin or Erhoff, they won't be re-signing both |

The flashes, and hope and potential. Whoopy (frank)ing doo.
I do hope he finds his way because the Flyers have stuck it through with him but damn. Don't tell me every guy takes 5 years to develop when kids hit the NHL and impact much sooner. He needs to find another niche or way to contribute, or send him down. Deep. Deep throat deep. |

Depending on the term, but, I don't envision our prospects making an impact, (yes, one or two will make the team), for quite awhile.
Also don't see too many upgrades on other rosters, that won't cost us a major piece that we have. |

I like Martin, he's a solid defenseman. What's the cost. I think we'd be looking at 6M for 5 years if not more.

They also don't have to move Streit or Coburn.
I'm not trading either at this TDL unless somebody gives me every inch and ounce of value for them. I'm not shopping them as much as listening to offers.
Neither has to be moved at this TDL. Both are signed next season. There's far worse things than having Streit and/or Coburn return next season.
I'm advocating smart moves that weigh the long term over the short. I'm not saying to have a fire sale where everything has to be gone. |

I agree. Reshaping the defense is the biggest pickle the Flyers are in. Waiting on the kids means wasting a number of prime years for a number of players.

I think his age and the amount of years left on his deal, might limit the suitors. - MJL
The thing about Streit's age is that there isn't the same "mileage" on him as other players his age, since he started in the league a little later. He doesnt play like a 37 year old. Who knows, that could change real fast, but he has showed little signs of slowing down. He has only had the one major injury to his shoulder, his wheels have always been good for the most part.
