agree. not trying to reignite the debate as to whether we should try to trade AMAC, but does anyone think his contract is COMPLETELY unmovable? Would the kings have interest?
- black_francis

Yes. I cant think of a GM out there that takes him on without sending back an equally questionable player/contract combo in return.

I also despise MacDonald. So there is bias. Some of these other fools are more rational.

I think this trade deadline could have a lot of crickets. Coburn, if its me anyway I keep long term. If his contract demands are insane trade him next year. As inconsistent as he is, he is still decent.

I am not sure you ever find a taker for Luke on his current contract, same goes for Happy Meal. So that leaves you with Grossmann, Schultz and MDZ. I'd be cool trading any of them. Up front? I don't know. I'd explore Read but don't see too many teams lining up for other forwards Flyers would be willing to deal.

- flyer_nutter

I would play the piss out of Luke right now and see if his plays improves which will allow us to move him. We are stuck with Happy Meal for sure.... 25 M left on his deal
I think Read could fetch at least a 2nd round pick to a contender

It's not going to be the right price. The Islanders gave up a lot to get him and he means a lot to that team. Expect an overpayment if you want any top 4 defenseman.
- PhillySportsGuy

Absolutely it will be an overpayment, it always is. It can still be the right price though as long as it's not outrageous.

I think the Flyers should keep Read. He's had a down year, but he's playing through a high ankle sprain. That is a tough injury to deal with. He's played very well for the Flyers prior to this year. He's a swiss army knife, can play in any situation and is signed to a reasonable deal.

I think his deal is unmovable. Even if he was a solid, top 4 puck mover, which I don't feel he is, he's got five and a half years left at $5mm per year. That's a load of term to take on.

There's a number of GM's who have said to well known and reputable reporters that trading term right now is difficult. GM's are leery of adding too much future cap commitment to their team via trade, at least right now.

Boychuk is a pretty solid dman. I think he's better than anyone the Flyers currently have. The Islanders are proving to be a contending team, with a ton of salary cap flexibility. Not sure why Boychuk would want to leave.
- PLindbergh31

I don't know, I don't think he's better than every defender we have, not saying he's a bad player.
He's a solid defender, but I think a guy like Mike Green would improve our attack much more, and a better attack means we're not hemmed in our zone as much.

Edit, he's having a great year, (just noticed that).
My bad.

They said it's difficult, but not impossible. Scott Gomez was deemed untradeable. In my opinion it's a moot point anyway, as I don't want them to trade MacDonald.

Boychuck is underrated offensively. Green only has 5 more points then Boychuck does.

Yup. Has found a niche in an above average defensive game to warrant staying even if the points arent coming.

I think Raffl has found himself a place on the team long term with the same niche and above average skating. That's the key imo, players that aren't just average warm bodies.

Deal Streit & Coburn, get $9.75mm in cap room, add a couple 1st rounders, sign Green and Boychuk as UFAs..trouble is, instead of $9.75 for Streit & Coburn, you're looking at near $12.5 or so for Green & Boychuk as UFAs

Can't compare them this season, Green has been demoted to the 3rd pairing, not getting as much power play time.
Boychuck is getting major minutes this year.
Seriously, Green surpassed 70 points twice previously, he won't do that without #1 PP minutes.
Edit, Boychuck is better offensively than I thought, but he's not Mike Green.

Flyers could keep Streit and Coburn. They could trade one of Grossmann or Schenn. Sign Boychuk. If they need more cap space and can't trade Lecavalier, buyout Umberger or Lecavalier. Not sure of the exact numbers as sadly, capgeek no longer exists.

The worrisome thing with Read is the possibility that age related decline could start in just as his deal gets larger. Hopefully the injuries are the cause of Read's struggles and he returns next year as a 20 goal scorer who plays excellent two way hockey and is an elite PK guy again.

Because if he doesn't rebound and is starting to decline, his modest $3.65mm hit becomes a bit of an albatross.

Even though Green has been up and down, he's not likely to take a haircut as a UFA. Boychuk is looking at a significant raise.

I'm not against it, but again, neither is a legit number one, IMO. Boychuk is still young enough to become one, Green is basically an offensive guy who will always struggle with his own end. But if he's healthy and can return to form, he's an elite offensive guy

Since December, the Flyers have given up 62 goals against. MacDonald has been on the ice for 12 of those goals against. Guy is a solid defenseman.

I thought Boychuck was younger, he's already 30.
Do you think Green would be another Streit on this team?
Albeit, a more expensive one.

He basically talked himself into getting a pass this year with the reported high ankle sprain.

Next year he'll be watched closely.

Green has changed his game. He is no longer the player that was a liability defensively as he has been in the past. He's developed into a much better all around player in my opinion.
