Didn't answer the question. You said they do on bad teams. Name one other NHL defenseman that you deem a 3rd pair defenseman that has averaged 20-25 minutes a game for 6 seasons?

I told you earlier today before Iodine that I'm not doing this dance with you and you will be twerking alone today. You think hes good, I think he's trash. Cool.

i would try him there too. physicality doesnt have to be a required tool to succeed there.

No but it certainly helps, and it's why MacDonald isn't an ideal defenseman for the PK. He's fine as a secondary player on the PK, but his strong suit is really ES play. I hope that he advances his point production, as I feel he has the ability to put up some points. Flyers have to remold him a little bit, and get him playing more aggressively in terms of moving up on the play, and jumping into holes offensively.

I thought shot blocking was the one metric MacDonald excelled in. He's currently 125th in the NHL. I guess once he put that Flyers sweater on the shot blocking lead to broken bones.

He used to be a shot block machine. Guess he decided now that he's rich, he doesn't have to get in front of as many shots

If they want that, its time to move on from Berube. If they lose at least entertain me. Boring as hell to watch. I get it, with the limitations you have to play safe all round, avoid penalties and what not.. But damn.

Look at the defense corps he's played on though.

The Isles, then post Pronger Flyers.

Now, put him on a league average defense corps. He'd see 15-17 minutes.

- Giroux_Is_God

I disagree with that. He's an 18 -20 minute player, and would make a solid 2nd pair defenseman on a lot of teams. MacDonald has never played on a really good team. I'd like to see what he can do placed in the right role with the right support on a good team. He'd be even better.

you would definitely need to pair him with someone who can move the crease a bit.

but it has been shown that guys that arent exactly the most physical can be successful there. martin couldnt move a pile of index cards across a desk, but he is a decent penalty killer based on finesse and positioning and an ability to skate the puck out.

Why is it time to move on from Berube? That's exactly why Berube scratched MacDonald earlier in the season for a game. For not playing aggressively enough, and playing too cautious. Berube has made numerous statements that he wants MacDonald using his skating to move up with the play offensively. Same with Del Zotto.

nhlnumbers could be such a great site. Just emailed them asking for a buyout calculator. Shouldn't be hard if you know the contract already.

125th! What a machine! Come to think of it, if he didn't suck this year so much to the point of getting benched on one of the worst D units in the league he could've eaten more rubber.

I wonder how many 5 million dollar defensemen in the league are getting scratched based on the match up.

That criteria would make Jay Bouwmeester, Brian Campbell, Dennis Wideman, Ron Hainsey & Chris Phillips legit number one defensemen. Since 2006 they are all in the top 20 in the NHL in minutes played.

For instance over the last 9 seasons, Wideman has averaged 23.5 minutes per game. That's a minute more than Brent Seabrook and 30 seconds less than Shea Weber.

Minutes played and type of minutes have something to do with that. He was playing over 25 minutes a game for the Islanders, and playing more on the PK for them.

agree. not trying to reignite the debate as to whether we should try to trade AMAC, but does anyone think his contract is COMPLETELY unmovable? Would the kings have interest?
